How to Design An Awesome Business Logo

Logos, the graphics that can separate an iconic brand or company from the rest of the bunch.

Logos aren’t just a nice image with your company name next to it, they’re much more than that. A logo incorporates a company’s look, it’s message should be easy to remember.

Now I’m not saying that the Wealthy Gorilla logo I’ve gone for is the best. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up changing it fairly soon for a smarter logo that I prefer, but at the moment it’s an alright look!

How to Design an Awesome Business Logo

There’s many things that should be considered when designing a logo for your company. After all, you want to tailor it to your niche, your audience and the message that your company should send out to other people.

So how do you go about it?

Here’s how to design an awesome business logo.

1. Simplicity

The best logos are often the simple ones, because they’re so easy to remember and they stick out well, instead of having to focus in a lots of detail.

Nike’s logo of a very simple tick has become so memorable that they don’t even bother including their company name on their advertising. They now just have their logo.

So in most cases a simplistic logo is best, unless you need to show certain elements within your logo that might make it more complicated.

2. Message

The majority of companies probably don’t portray messages within their logos, but if you want to design an awesome business logo, then getting clever with this can be very beneficial.

As an example, Amazon has an incredible message behind their logo that not many people will probably be aware of.

The logo has an arrow pointing from the A to the Z, which basically means that they sell anything from A to Z! It’s quite a clever little touch to their logo.

You may not have a message you want to portray within your awesome business logo, but if you do then it’d be great if you were able to incorporate this within the logo.

3. Branding

You need to consider a logo that will go with or incorporate your brand name in the way you want it to.

You want something that will catch people’s attention and make them take a second look at it, something that shows your brand is reliable. So little things like which font you put your company name in, will play a big part in whether it stands out to others.

If you’re looking for examples, have a look at popular successful businesses in your niche and how they display their names and logos.

4. Design

So, I’m not sure why I didn’t put this at the top of the list, but this is the most important factor for designing a memorable logo. If people can remember it after only seeing it a couple of times, you’ve done a good job!

Whatever your company is about will determine how you want to design your logo. Just as an example, obviously this blog is called Wealthy Gorilla, so essentially what I tried to do was have a gorilla standing proudly surrounded by a pile of bananas to symbolize wealth.

Social media sites will have the simplest logos, because they don’t want the logo to attract that much attention away from their pages, and it make it easier to create things like sharing buttons on other websites.

5. Color

The colors used within your logo should obviously be on the same sort of level as the colors associated with your business. Normally it seems best to only use 2 to 3 colors in order to keep it simple and in tone with everything else.

If you look at all the other successful and well known companies out there, the number of colors used will normally be within this amount and no more. If you think about companies like Starbucks, Facebook, Twitter and so on, they all use either 2 or 3 colors, with 1 of them nearly always being white.

Which colors you use will also depend on the type of company you have and what tone you want to come across to people.

Companies that are more corporate will normally use darker colors to portray this, and other businesses that want to come across as more fun and vibrant will use lighter colors.

6. Size

Almost forgot about this one, but think about where you will be using your logo.

Will the area used be on certain parts of paper, products, websites etc that only have limited space available? It might need to be a certain shape to fit in with what you’re doing. For example, you can see that my logo fits in the header perfectly.

So you will need to decide if the logo has to be of a square shape, or could it be a rectangular shape. The last thing you want to do is design an awesome business logo that looks the bomb, but then not be able to use it in half of the places you wanted to.

So the below are several things you definitely need to take into consideration when designing a business logo, and they should help you to create an absolutely awesome one that sticks in people’s brains and just won’t leave.
