Music Career

In 1998, Tyrese signed his first contract with RCA Records and soon after that, he released his very first single titled ‘Nobody Else’ which reached number 36 on the Billboard charts.

After this, Tyrese spent the following four or five years focusing mostly on his acting career, taking a break from music.

The year 2006 brought the world his very first double album titled ‘Alter Ego’.

In 2007, Tyrese formed a music group with Tank and Ginuwine called ‘TGT’ but the group didn’t start releasing music until 2013.

Their very first album was titled ‘Three Kings’.

In 2011, he released an album under his own label, Voltron Records. The album was called ‘Open Invitation’ and earned him another Grammy nomination.

In 1994, he appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial after winning a talent competition.

In the commercial, Tyrese can be seen walking onto a bus and singing “Always Coca-Cola”.

This would become the early beginning of a lucrative acting career; and technically, this was also the start for his music career.

After filming the commercial, Tyrese received many other opportunities including participating in ‘Guess’ and ‘Tommy Hilfiger’ ad campaigns.

In 2001, Tyrese starred in the film ‘Baby Boy’, directed by John Singleton.

While the movie was generally well-received, it wasn’t the work that Tyrese would gain in acting notoriety for.

Fast & Furious

In 2003, Tyrese would star alongside the late Paul Walker in the Fast & Furious sequel, ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’, playing the character Roman Pearce.

Roman’s character became loved by many, sparking a relationship with the franchise that would see Tyrese star in 7 more Fast & Furious films spanning two decades.

Transformers

Transformers, another wildly successful movie franchise, offered Tyrese the role of Sergeant Robert Epps.

While not as active a role as Fast & Furious, Tyrese has starred in three of the Transformers movies, with the franchise films bringing in over $5 billion worldwide thus far.

Other Movies

It’s likely that if you don’t know Tyrese from the two franchises mentioned above, or his music, you may have seen him in other Hollywood movies.

Between 2004 and 2006 he acted in four films including ‘Four Brothers’, ‘Annapolis’, ‘Flight of the Phoenix’, and ‘Waist Deep’.

Some of his more recent work has included ‘Black & Blue’, ‘Rogue Hostage’, and ‘The System’.

Writing

Tyrese has also tried his hand at writing over the years and is a New York Times bestseller

His very first project was a comic book, ‘Tyrese Gibson’s MAYHEM!’.

As of May 2024, Tyrese Gibson’s net worth is estimated at $6 Million.

When we deep dive into his income streams we can see that the majority of his wealth has been built through three areas:

Tyrese makes most of his money from starring in world-famous movie franchises, from album sales, and music royalties, as well as his book sales.

Real Estate

Tyrese has purchased several homes over the years, including a $1 million home for his mother, a $3.5 million home in California, and a $4 million home in Atlanta.

Atlanta Dream Home

YouTube video

Tyrese Gibson paid $4 million in December of 2017 for his ‘Atlanta Dream Mansion’.

The house is 25,000 square feet, has 7 bedrooms, and 9 and a half bathrooms.

One of the most impressive things about the house is that despite looking like a 3-story house from the outside, it consists of 6-stories.

In the video above, courtesy of Architectural Digest, we don’t get to see the whole of Tyrese’s house. However, we can see a few key areas:

  • Cigar room
  • Recording studio
  • Cinema room
  • Basement gym
  • Billiard/Poker tables

Gibson also gave the team from People Magazine a personal tour, and in this video, we can see a little more, including the Life-size Transformer statues.

People Magzine’s tour of the house was in 2019 whereas AD’s was in 2021, so Tyrese may have outgrown the Transformers.

Woodland Hills California Home

In May 2021, Gibson listed his long-time California home in Woodland Hills for sale.

The listing price was initially set at $3.5 million but eventually sold for $2.4 million in March 2022.

Favorite Quotes from Shaun Weiss

“Token Jew? Hmm… felt more like the token fat kid. The schools I attended were predominantly Jewish, so for a couple years, there was a bar/bat mitzvah every weekend, sometimes two. It was fun watching them try to top each other. Kept waiting for Streisand to show up and bust out the Hava Nagila.” – Shaun Weiss

“I assume you mean Emilio, the real guy. Best advice: “If you’re going to hook up with the extras, get their parents to sign a release form.” Kick Conway’s ass? What kind of mensch are you, guy?” – Shaun Weiss

“We had three months of hockey camp. Skating didn’t come easy for me—I spent the first month on my ass. Never wanted to quit, but I did wish the movie was about the Oregon football team.” – Shaun Weiss”

“Believe it or not, right after I did `Heavyweights,’ I was so inspired that I went to a real, quote-unquote, fat camp. I was 185 pounds, and I slimmed down to 152. So I went to this audition for the BBC in late August, and they said, `He’s too thin.’ I had to put it back on.” – Shaun Weiss

“We decided to give the producers a little run for their money. I was having hot dogs for lunch, so we got the entire cast to play sick to freak everybody out. We were all complaining, saying `My stomach is killing me.’ Finally, we started throwing up we were faking it. The producers went crazy. They nearly had a heart attack.” – Shaun Weiss

“Of course it all touched a nerve for me. The movie is not about skinny or fat. The movie is about being yourself and accepting what you are.” – Shaun Weiss

Favorite Quotes from Richard Lewis

“I read somewhere that when I go on stage, people realize that they’re not me and they feel better. When I walk off the stage, people know who I really am. I’m not saying it’s great comedy, cool comedy or better comedy – but that’s what I do, and I do it first for myself.” – Richard Lewis

“I’m psyched-up when I do radio. I can reach hundreds of thousands of people in a market. And way psyched-up when I’m on television. For people not to take it seriously is foolish.” – Richard Lewis

“I was 23, and all sorts of people were coming in and out and watching me, like Steve Allen and Bette Midler. David Brenner certainly took me under his wing. To drive home to my little dump in New Jersey often knowing that Steve Allen said, ‘You got it’ – that validation kept me going in a big, big way.” – Richard Lewis

“I never gave much thought to anything since I was 22 years old, when I got into the arts, so when Larry David came to my house in 2000, I didn’t even think about it – I just thought about showing up on the set.” – Richard Lewis

“I was way more comfortable in front of strangers than I was in front of relatives. So when they would laugh at my dysfunctions or my anxiety, I felt less alone, and I still do it for the same reason.” – Richard Lewis
