- Grossed nearly $213 million in revenue from concerts/tours

- Sued for $2 million by City National Bank in 2023
Early Life
Chris was born in Tappahannock, Virginia, on the 5th of May, 1989.
His full name is Christopher Maurice Brown, his mother is Joyce Hawkins, and his father is Clinton Brown.
Clinton worked at a local prison, and Joyce worked at a daycare center. When Chris was young, he taught himself to sing and dance. He would perform in his church choir and talent shows in the local area.
The family began to look for the opportunity of a record deal for Chris. It was at this time that his parents divorced each other, and he struggled emotionally for a short period as a result.
Career
Chris Brown’s debut album, released in November 2005, succeeded incredibly. He had a number-one hit with “Run It!” The track also featured a guest appearance by rapper Juelz Santana. The album earned Chris two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best R&B Contemporary Album. Brown received several other awards, including an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist.
Brown also branched out into acting with a role in Stomp the Yard, a film about a step dance competition. The film also featured another popular R&B performer, Ne-Yo. He also released his second album, Exclusive, in 2007 and starred in yet another film, ‘This Christmas.’
In 2009, Chris Brown made the headlines after being arrested for allegedly assaulting Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time. Brown pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 180 days of community labor and five years of probation.
Brown released the albums F.A.M.E. and Fortune in the next couple of years. Not long before the debut of his next effort, X, Brown found himself in trouble with the law. He was arrested on assault charges in October 2013.
City National Bank Lawsuit
In September 2023, City National Bank filed a lawsuit against Chris Brown for a loan default related to his purchase of two Popeyes Chicken franchises.
The lawsuit alleged that Brown and a group of investors took out the loan in 2018 to fund the Popeyes Chicken business venture and failed to make repayments. The total loan amount was approximately $2.14 million, with Brown personally liable for $1.31 million, including unpaid principal and interest.
City National Bank revealed that the loan had not been repaid as agreed and stated that further legal steps would be taken to recover the outstanding amount. The bank also retained the power to seize Brown’s assets if he failed to repay the debt within the specified period.
In March 2024, an L.A. court ordered Brown to pay $1,760,654.11 after he and his investors failed to make payments on the loan from 2018. Brown was given 30 days to respond to the ruling, or the bank would begin asset seizure proceedings.
Soon after, Brown narrowly avoided being served legal papers related to the $1.31 million portion of the $1.76 million judgment when his security guard at his Tarzana home falsely claimed he didn’t live there, even though his name was on the deed. As of 2024, City National Bank is still actively pursuing the debt.
Real Estate
West Hollywood Penthouse
In February 2011, Brown purchased a 2,780-square-foot penthouse in West Hollywood for $1.6 million. While living in the unit, Chris constantly crashed with neighbors, who complained he would play loud music and race dogs along the hallways. He also parked his car in designated disabled bays, stacking over $15,000 in unpaid parking fines.
As a result, he was forced to list the property for sale only a year after moving in. Although it was listed for $1.895 million in May 2012, it didn’t sell until May 2014. The singer received $1.6 million, which is exactly what he paid for the unit.
Graffiti House
Five months after purchasing his penthouse, Brown paid $1.55 million for a 2,800-square-foot home in the Hollywood Hills. While residing on the property, he decorated most of the walls with graffiti artwork, including the outside walls, angering neighbors again. The city of Los Angeles eventually ordered him to remove the artwork from any exterior walls, but much of the interior artwork still remains today.
In December 2013, he put the property on the market for $1.92 million, which later sold for $1.69 million in June 2014.
Tarzana House
Going three for three, Brown also angered neighbors after he moved to the Tarzana area in 2015. Chris paid $4.35 million for his six-bedroom Tarzana mansion.
The house is reportedly still owned by Brown and has made headlines multiple times for bizarre events, including riding ATVs at high speeds through alleyways and doing doughnuts on neighbors’ lawns. In 2015, an armed intruder broke into the home and locked Chris’ aunt inside the closet, and in 2018, an illegal pet monkey was also seized from the property.
Vehicles
It’s essential to keep yourself safe when you’re a celebrity, just like Chris Brown. On the road, he has a bulletproof SUV that protects him while driving in his car. One of his boldest vehicles is a Rezvani Tank, which cost the hip-hop star around $350,000. Brown also has a Chevy Impala that costs $37,000 and has had multiple Lamborghinis.
Brown loves to get his cars customized and has had a few done by Ryan Friedlinghaus and West Coast Customs. When it comes to traveling, Brown prefers to fly in a private jet in luxury. The super-luxurious Gulfstream IV costs around $36 million.
