Initial Contract (2007 – 2010)

Saban’s head coaching role at the Alabama Crimson Tide accounts for the bulk of his income. When he first signed on as the team’s head coach in 2007, he was given an eight-year, $32 million contract that would have paid him an average annual salary of $4 million. In 2007, he reportedly earned $3.5 million, followed by $3.75 million in 2008. When the team won the National Championship in 2009, Nick’s stock went up. He earned $4.1 million for the year and then negotiated a brand new contract.

Contract Extensions

Saban’s new agreement increased his salary to approximately $4.9 million per season from 2010 to 2013. In 2014, Nick signed yet another long-term extension, which pushed his annual base salary to $6.9 million. The deal was expected to see him through until 2022. Midway through the contract, Saban began receiving numerous bonuses for National and SEC Titles, Coach of the Year, and academic awards, which pushed his total earnings over $7 million per year.

His contract was also restructured in 2017, now valued at $65 million over eight years. In the first year, he received a $4 million signing bonus, which is why his income for that year is listed at $11.1 million.

Final Contract

In 2021, additional negotiations took place, with Saban inking a new eight-year, $70.6 million deal. His base salary increased to $8.8 million, and after considering bonuses, he earned a total of $10.35 million for the year. Just a year after signing the deal, the contract was restructured to $93.6 million; hence, his earnings for 2022 and 2023 were $11.2 million and $11.7 million, respectively.

Despite leaving a lot of money on the table, Saban stepped down as head coach and transitioned to an advisor at the University of Alabama. He reportedly earns $500,000 per year in his current role.

Real Estate

Tuscaloosa Home

In February 2007, Saban paid $1.365 million for a 10,585-square-foot, seven-bedroom home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Several news websites reported the purchase price at $2.9 million, but public records state otherwise. In 2013, he sold the property to the Crimson Tide Foundation for $3.1 million and continued to live there.

Jupiter Mansion

In May 2023, Nick paid $17.5 million for a 6,200-square-foot, six-bedroom beachfront home in Jupiter, Florida. The property had initially been listed for $21.5 million a year earlier, before the price was reduced to $19.5 million in April 2023.

He deserves every cent he works for.
His gifts to many different organizations proves he is a very good, caring man. I’m sure he donates a number ce chunk on the side that’s never reported on his taxes. He instills this giving not only of ones self but of one’s gifts to humanity. He’s a strong Christian leader.

Introduction

John Madden was an American football coach and sportscaster with an estimated net worth of $200 Million.

This profile details our research into John Madden’s net worth and income sources, including his contracts with EA Sports. Additionally, we’ll look at any other aspects of his finances and the estate he left behind.

Quick Facts

  • Reportedly signed a $150 million licensing contract with EA Sports (2005)
  • Earned $8 million per year at the peak of his career
  • Secured endorsement deals with Canon, Exxon, McDonald’s, and more
  • Reportedly earned $2 million per year from his Tinactin endorsement

Before Wealth & Fame

John Madden played college football for several teams, including the University of Oregon, College of San Mateo, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was fortunate enough to be selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 21st round of the 1958 NFL Draft but suffered a career-ending knee injury in training camp. He was never able to play a regular-season game in the NFL. As a result, Madden decided to return to Cal Poly and earn his master’s degree in education.

Coaching Career

Just two years after being cut from the NFL, Madden landed his first coaching role as the assistant coach at Allan Hancock College. Prior to this, he’d never had any professional coaching experience. Madden spent three seasons with the team before earning an opportunity to become the defensive coordinator at San Diego State.

After a two-year stint with San Diego, Madden was called up to the NFL to coach the linebacker position at the Oakland Raiders, now the Las Vegas Raiders. In 1969, he was promoted to head coach, and while he wasn’t the first non-NFL player (technically) to become a head coach, he would go on to be one of the most successful. He led the Raiders to win Super Bowl XI in 1977 and retired a year later with a record of 103-32-7. Madden was officially named the Youngest Coach to reach 100 Wins in NFL history.

Broadcasting Career

Naturally, John Madden’s success as a young coach opened many other doors for him within the sport after he retired. From 1979 to 2009, he worked as an NFL commentator, significantly furthering his legacy. Madden was known for his energetic personality, balancing game analysis with humor, which quickly made him one of the sport’s most beloved commentators.

His personality and passion for the game led to his famous partnership with EA to help develop the Madden NFL video game franchise. Today, his name remains on every new game released by the company.

Madden NFL Deal

Madden NFL, the super-successful American football video game series produced by EA Sports, was named after John Madden as a tribute to his thriving career as an NFL coach and sports commentator and his influence and passion for the sport.

John initially signed a licensing agreement with Electronic Arts (EA) in 1988, granting them the rights to use his name, likeness, and expertise to market the Madden video game series. Since then, the series has sold over 130 million copies, become one of the best-selling video games of all time, and is considered a multi-billion-dollar franchise for EA.

In 2005, EA signed a deal with the NFL to become their exclusive game developer. It was also reported that Madden signed another contract with EA worth $150 million, plus annual royalties estimated in the millions. This contract allowed them to use his name and likeness indefinitely, even after his death.

At the height of his career, Madden reportedly earned up to $8 million a year, a lot of money back then. However, signing the deal with EA proved a pivotal moment in Madden’s financial success, significantly contributing to the growth of his net worth thereafter.

Real Estate

When it comes to real estate, we know that John Madden once owned a 2,000-square-foot apartment at The Dakota, a complex in Manhattan, New York City. He purchased the unit for $625,000 back in 1985 and returned it to the market in 2011. While Madden initially sought $4.9 million, he ultimately let it go for $3.9 million the following year.

Bill Cowher Net Worth
Net Worth:$18 Million

Introduction

Bill Cowher is an American former NFL player with an estimated net worth of $18 Million.

Now best known as the former head coach of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, Bill Cowher was regularly paid at least $2 million per year to coach the team, earning at least $30 million over 15 years. Since his retirement from coaching, the Pro Football Hall of Famer has worked as an analyst for The NFL Today on CBS.

This profile details our research into Bill Cowher’s net worth, coaching salary, real estate investments, and other events that have impacted his finances.

Quick Facts

  • Earned at least $30 million as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Likely earned less than $300,000 while playing in the NFL
  • Potentially earned at least $40 million from The NFL Today (rough estimate)

NFL Salary

Bill Cowher played just five seasons in the NFL with two teams: the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns. His career began with the Eagles in 1979, when player contracts and salaries weren’t often discussed in the media. At the time, player salaries were much, much lower than the numbers you see athletes raking in today.

Back then, rookie contracts typically paid between $20,000 and $30,000 per year. In fact, in 1979, the minimum league salary was $20,000 per year, and the league-wide average salary was $62,585. Cowher’s paycheck likely began at the league minimum and rose to around $60,000 by the end of his career. Since he played for just five seasons, Cowher likely earned somewhere between $200,000 and $300,000 in the NFL. Adjusted for inflation, we’re looking at between $700,000 and $1 million in today’s dollars.

Coaching Salary

Bill Cowher served as the head coach for the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers for roughly fifteen years, between 1992 and 2007. During that time, he signed numerous contracts and contract extensions, often earning him a salary in the multiple seven-figure range. Based on our research, the earliest recorded salary for his tenure in Pittsburgh was in 1998, when he signed a three-year extension worth $6 million, or $2 million per year. The deal excluded performance bonuses, and over the final two years, he reportedly earned a combined $4.98 million. Thus, his total earnings from the contract potentially exceeded $7 million.

In June 2001, he signed another three-year extension, this time worth $7 million. This would have increased his base pay by roughly $333,000 per year, but ESPN suggested that he would earn a total compensation closer to $3 million per year. His earnings from 2004 until 2007 were also assumed to be similar; however, the financial details for this period were never publicly disclosed.

Given all the information above, Bill Cowher likely earned an estimated $25 million between 1998 and 2007. We couldn’t find salary history for the years between 1992 and 1998; however, we can assume it was under $2 million per year. As a rough estimate, during his fifteen-year tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cowher could have earned somewhere between $30 million and $35 million in total.

The NFL Today

Following his retirement from coaching, Bill Cowher began working with the CBS network as an analyst on The NFL Today. Now then, Cowher still works on the show, but his exact salary has never been revealed. You might see other sources reporting his salary as $4 million per year, but they forget to mention that it’s not his confirmed salary. In actual fact, it’s the top end of an estimated range for similar analysts.

For someone in Cowher’s position, the average annual compensation can range between $2 million and $4 million. Given that he’s worked with CBS for nearly two decades, his total compensation could range from $40 million to $80 million.

Real Estate

Chatsworth estate

In 2005, Cowher purchased a 7,779-square-foot five-bedroom estate in Chatsworth, North Carolina. He paid $2.525 million for the then-newly built home. In February 2008, at the beginning of the financial crisis, Cowher listed the property for sale at $2.65 million. As expected, the house proved difficult to sell. Bill reduced the price numerous times before letting the house go for just $1.9 million in May 2009.

Raleigh Country Club

In 2008, while trying to sell his Chatsworth estate, Cowher acquired a four-bedroom home situated in the North Ridge Country Club. Bill paid just over $1 million for the home and owned it for 10 years before listing it for $2.4 million in 2018. The house sold for $1.845 million, $555,000 under the asking price.

His salary while coaching the New England Patriots varied, given his long tenure and multiple stints with the team. It has been reported that he earned between $1 million and $4 million annually with the Patriots, with the lower figure likely representing his earnings during his first few years with the team. The $4 million salary could relate to his second stint between 2021 and 2022, but it’s impossible to know for sure.
