Early Life
Ryan Timothy Tannehill III was born July 27, 1988, in Lubbock, Texas.
His parents, Tim, and Cheryl Tannehill, and he has a younger brother, Tobyn Tannehill, are originally from Lubbock, but the family moved to Big Spring, Texas, while Ryan was still young.
Ryan attended Big Spring High School, where he enjoyed athletics and various other sports. He not only took a liking to football but also played for the school’s basketball team. His noticeable talent led to the football coach grabbing him for his obvious skills.
Once he left school, the major teams tried to recruit him as they’d heard of Ryan’s awesome school football reputation.
He received offers from teams from universities such as Tulsa, TCU, UTEP, and the University of Houston, but none of them impressed Ryan. Finally, Ryan decided to attend Texas A&M University where he played for the university’s football team.
After graduating, Ryan received a bachelor’s degree in biology and originally wanted to become an orthopedic surgeon.
At first, Ryan competed against Jerrod Johnson for the quarterback position but ultimately lost out and played as a wide receiver even though he felt that he would do better in the quarterback position.
It was soon discovered he was right, after he led the Aggies to victory after playing against Oklahoma and was finally allowed to play as a quarterback during the 2011 season.
Career
Ryan was picked in the 2012 NFL draft by one of the richest NFL teams, the Miami Dolphins, with his first contract being for four years and worth $12.68 million.
He made his debut in a match against the Houston Texans, but the Miami Dolphins ran out the losers on that occasion.
He joined a team that included great players like Xavien Howard, Arian Foster, and Derwin James in their lineup.
Ryan scored a new single-game record while playing against the Arizona Cardinals, even though the team lost the match.
A few weeks later, Ryan wowed everyone by making the longest run of 31 yards and breaking a record that had stood since 2009.
He signed a $96 million contract that saw him play with them for another six years and in the lead-up to the 2017 season, the team started to win more games.
Unfortunately, Ryan injured his leg and had to take time off to get surgery, which resulted in Jay Cutler being substituted for him during his time in recovery.
A leg injury was not going to stop the machine, as Ryan soon returned to lead his team to victory.
Unfortunately, this was followed by a shoulder injury which resulted in him having to miss a crucial game against the Chicago Bears.
Ryan was then traded to the Tennessee Titans in the 2020 draft as the seventh selection, signing a $7 million one-year contract with the team.
He enjoys playing with stars like Derrick Henry, Taylor Lewan, and Albert Haynesworth at his back.
His move proved successful, and he signed a four-year contract extension worth $188 million, which made him one of the highest-paid athletes in the NFL at the time.
