3 Amazing Lessons From Duncan Robinson

For most Division III players in the NCAA, there are no plans of playing in the NBA or even on any professional level, but not Duncan Robinson.

Robinson set his sights on making it at Michigan and then at the highest level of basketball despite no team selecting him at the NBA Draft.

Now that you know all about Duncan Robinson’s net worth, there’s a lot that can be learned from the former small-time college player that went on to become an NBA star.

Here are some of the best success lessons to learn from Duncan Robinson:

1. Hard Work Pays Off

Dating back to his high school career, Duncan Robinson wasn’t considered to be a star, but that didn’t stop him from working hard.

Robinson continued to plug away in practice and took basketball more seriously, earning himself a spot in the starting lineup during high school.

In fact, Robinson quit his high school job so that he could practice basketball more, and it paid off as he made it to the NCAA.

2. Love What You Do

You can work as hard as you possibly can for something, but if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, it won’t be worth it in the long run.

Robinson had to ask himself during the times he was struggling whether or not he loved basketball, and it turned out he did.

The love for the game made Robinson want to work even harder and make a career out of basketball, and he’s made millions as a result.

3. Mentality Is As Important As Physicality

NBA players are among the most athletically gifted people in the entire world, but even the best athlete can struggle if they don’t have the right mentality.

Duncan Robinson very much lives in the moment, and focuses on the shots that he’s taking or the next move he’s making on defense rather than a shot he missed earlier in the night.

Duncan Robinson is one of the biggest surprises of the NBA over the past decade and is now a staple of the Miami Heat.

Robinson already defied the odds once by starring at a major college basketball program after starting in Division III.

Now, Robinson is doing it again by establishing himself as a star player in the NBA despite not hearing his name called on draft night.

Kyle Lowry was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies as the 24th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, marking the beginning of his professional basketball career.

His rookie year didn’t go as planned as he appeared in 10 games before a broken wrist ended his season prematurely.

However, Lowry made a strong comeback in the 2007–08 season, playing in all 82 games for the Grizzlies after recovering from his wrist injury.

He joined a team that had drawn on the talents of players like Zach Randolph and Mike Conley to bolster their efforts.

Traded To The Houston Rockets

However, Lowry was traded to the Houston Rockets in a three-team deal in February 2009, finding a new opportunity and growth under coach Rick Adelman.

Initially playing as a backup to Aaron Brooks, Lowry’s impressive performances led to him becoming the Rockets’ starting point guard.

In December 2009, he achieved a career-high 32 points with 10 assists, six rebounds, and five steals in a game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Lowry’s restricted free agency led to a signed offer from the Cleveland Cavaliers, but it was matched by the Rockets, keeping him with the team.

Move To The Toronto Raptors

Traded to the Toronto Raptors in July 2012, Lowry found a new home and began a new chapter in his professional career.

The team included all-time great players like Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, and Paul George amongst other stars from the NBA.

He then contributed to the Raptors’ 56-win season in 2015–16, marking a franchise record for victories that delighted the fans and the team management.

Lowry played a crucial role in the Raptors’ playoff successes, including a historic win in the 2016 Eastern Conference Finals.

The team’s awesome performances helped them to reach the franchise’s first-ever Conference Finals appearance which resulted in the unexpected win.

Despite Lowry battling with injuries, he maintained his leadership role, securing a 35-point performance in a crucial Game 7 win in the 2016 playoffs.

During his much-celebrated time with the team, Lowry set multiple franchise records, including becoming the Raptors’ all-time leader in three-pointers.

Championship triumph with the Miami Heat

After a lengthy stay with the Raptors, Lowry’s transition to the Miami Heat marked a significant shift in his career.

Assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for recovery, he was recalled in November 2019, making his return to the NBA after 371 days.

Back to his old form, he scored 9 points in an overtime win against the Chicago Bulls in his comeback game.

For the 2020-21 season, Oladipo was traded to the Houston Rockets on January 16, 2021, as part of a four-team deal.

He made a cracking debut for the Rockets, scoring an impressive 32 points and providing 9 assists on January 18, 2021.

Playing The Trading Game

He was once again traded in March 2021 to the Miami Heat in exchange for Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk, and a draft pick.

Victor debuted for the Heat in April 2021, with his luck running out in May when he required surgery to repair his right quadriceps tendon.

He re-signed with the Miami Heat in August 2021 on a one-year, veteran’s minimum deal and returned from injury in March 2022.

He racked up 11 points in a win against the Houston Rockets and then scored a season-high 40 points in the regular-season finale in April.

Victor signed a two-year, $18 million deal with the Miami Heat in July 2022, but suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee in April 2023.

July 2023 saw him traded to the Houston Rockets where he is currently recovering from a recent knee injury, showing remarkable resilience.

A Musical Career Awaits After He Retires

Aside from his charitable initiatives helping underprivileged communities through basketball camps and outreach programs, Oladipo is also a singer.

Victor has always had a strong musical interest and while pursuing his basketball career, released an EP titled, “Songs for You” in 2017.

The song was well-received which bolstered his confidence and saw him follow up with his debut album, “V.O.,” in 2018.
