Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo was born July 18, 1957, in Welwyn Garden City, England, the only child of Joyce and George Faldo.

As a teenager, Nick started playing golf after being inspired by watching Jack Nicklaus play at the 1971 Masters.

Just three years after picking up a club for the first time, Nick played in the 1974 English Amateur at Woodhall Spa.

The following year, he won both the English Amateur at Royal Lytham and the British Youths Open Amateur Championship.

All of these victories led to him turning professional shortly after, in 1976.



After becoming a professional, the success continued to mount for Nick Faldo, and by 1977, he had become the then-youngest Ryder Cup player.

By the 1980s, Faldo had become a regular at major championships, and in 1987 he claimed his first major title at The Open Championship.

His second major victory came at the 1989 Masters, where he claimed the title with a 25-foot birdie putt.

In 1990, Faldo successfully defended his Masters’ title and won his second Open Championship, and became the first golfer since 1982 to win two majors in the same year.

Faldo won his third Open Championship in 1992 and third Masters Tournament in 1996, the last major title he would claim during his career.
