Favorite Quotes from Stephen King

“There’s something in us that is very much attracted to madness. Everyone who looks off the edge of a tall building has felt at least a faint, morbid urge to jump. And anyone who has ever put a loaded pistol up to his head… All right, my point is this: even the most well-adjusted person is holding onto his or her sanity by a greased rope. I really believe that. The rationality circuits are shoddily built into the human animal.” – Stephen King

“Good description is a learned skill, one of the prime reasons why you cannot succeed unless you read a lot and write a lot. It’s not just a question of how-to, you see; it’s also a question of how much to. Reading will help you answer how much, and only dreams of writing will help you with the how. You can learn only by doing.” – Stephen King

“If you’re just starting out as a writer, you could do worse than strip your television’s electric plug-wire, wrap a spike around it, and then stick it back into the wall. See what blows, and how far. Just an idea.” -Stephen King

“Reading is the creative center of a writer’s life. I take a book with me everywhere I go and find there are all sorts of opportunities to dip in. The trick is to teach yourself to read in small sips as well as in long swallows. Waiting rooms were made for books— of course!” – Stephen King

“But so are theater lobbies before the show, long and boring checkout lines, and everyone’s favorite, the john. You can even read while you’re driving, thanks to the audiobook revolution. Of the books, I read each year, anywhere from six to a dozen are on tape.” – Stephen King

He is worth every cent, I have lots of his movies. He baffles me at how well he writes horror, and piles people into the story in the first few pages. Then u can’t put it down. I’d love to meet him someday.

I believe his net worth is underestimated, unless he has had substantial losses over the years. With 350 million books, plus some extremely successful movies and television series, his royalties must be much more than a bit more than a dollar per book.

I think Mr. King is well worth the $400 million. He’s tops on my list for horror movies and his books are tops as well. He grabs you right from the first page until the last. He is the best. I would love to meet him in person some day.

Favorite Quotes from Jim Davis

“The novelty’s not worn off because I’m still trying to get it right. Now and then, if you can do some silly gag that comes out of the left-field that delights the readers, that’s worth a lot. That’s what I go for all the time. One day, I’d like to write that gag that makes the whole world laugh.” – Jim Davis

“I would like to do it for as long as I feel I have something to contribute to it, until someone taps me on the shoulder and says, ‘Jim, you’re not funny anymore, stop it. I can’t believe 40 years have gone by. It’s been like a finger snap.” – Jim Davis

“Yes, it’s true we had at least 25 cats. They were all barn cats with a mission to keep mice at bay. I used to hang out in the barn and would observe that they all had distinct personalities. Some were aloof and some loved the attention. Some were playful. Others wouldn’t budge unless the barn were on fire.” – Jim Davis

“Not at first. I was pretty terrible. I was asthmatic as a child and was forced inside and in bed for days at a time. My mom would encourage me to keep myself busy; she’d shove a pencil and paper in my hands and tell me to entertain myself.” – Jim Davis

“When I received the phone call saying Garfield would be picked up by the syndicate, it was the best day of my life. Everything since then has just been gravy. I think Garfield resonated with people for a couple of reasons — Number one, I tried to keep the gags broad and the humor general and applicable to everyone.” – Jim Davis

Favorite Quotes from Tom Shadyac

“The word contentment comes from the word content, which is what we hold inside – love, value, a feeling of a life that has meaning or purpose, a cause greater than yourself that you’re a part of. These are the things that bring true happiness. As a culture, I think we need to redefine what it means to be happy.” – Tom Shadyac

“Our own economy tells us to take as much as we can get, right? Our own economy says you’re going to be the most successful graduate if you go into the business world and take as much you can get. That’s not how nature works. Nature has a much simpler economy. Everything in nature takes what it needs. That’s it.” – Tom Shadyac

“Look at native cultures – they’ve lasted for tens of thousands of years, not doing everything right. We wouldn’t want to emulate them in many ways, but their basic philosophies – being a part of nature, a part of a tribe or group without elevating, not what you call dominator philosophies – lasted for tens of thousands of years.” – Tom Shadyac

“There’s one fundamental law that all of nature obeys that mankind breaks every day. Now, this is a law that’s evolved over billions of years, and the law is this: Nothing in nature takes more than it needs.” – Tom Shadyac

“The solution begins with a deeper transformation that must occur in each of us. I AM isn’t as much about what you can do, as who you can be. And from that TRANSFORMATION OF BEING, action will naturally follow.” – Tom Shadyac

Whedon’s mother, Ann Lee, had a small fan base for her work as an activist at Riverdale Country School, where she inspired many with her visions as a feminist.

The family’s influence and love for drama resulted in family trips, which included reciting Shakespeare and other influential writers.

This, unfortunately, became an issue with the family, as Joss has reported how he and his two brothers would go through some sort of punishment from their parents if they were not creative or witty enough.

Joss experienced some childhood trauma at the age of 5 when his best friend drowned.

Four years later, Joss’s parents divorced, which didn’t help the already struggling child. To escape, Joss watched countless television shows.

Later on, Joss attended the same school his mother worked at and then attended a boarding school for three years when he was a teenager.

During his time at the boarding school, Joss was bullied regularly. This did not stop him from excelling though, and he later graduated from Wesleyan University. The university later honored him with a Doctor of Letters in 2013.

Before graduating, Joss met a film enthusiast named Jeanine Basinger, who became his mentor. Immediately after graduation, Joss started on the outline of the Buffy series, which was to be his big break.

Actors such as Pedro Pascal, and Amy Adams made a name for themselves after appearing on the show.

Joss started work on a sci-fi series, Firefly, which was warmly received and ran from 2002 to 2003. Because of the great reviews, he produced a prequel called Serenity in 2005. Unfortunately, it was not as successful as his previous work.

He tried releasing another sci-fi series, Dollhouse, which ran from 2009 to 2010 and it too, was not a great success.

Joss made a comeback with his co-written creation, The Cabin in the Woods, in 2012. Jesse Williams and Bradley Whitford made a name for themselves in the movie, which was widely applauded by the critics.

He then penned the internationally renowned movie, The Avengers, in 2012 to further critical acclaim. Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr. all appeared in the movie that broke box office records worldwide.

Joss made a huge success in taking some of the stories from the most expensive comic books in the world and turning them into relatable characters.

After his success with Marvel, Joss released a sequel called The Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. He also developed the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Recently, there was talk about his involvement in an HBO project called The Nevers, but it was announced that he had left the project.
