In the late 1980s, Julia Roberts earned under six figures per film, with paydays of $50,000 for Mystic Pizza (1988) and $90,000 for Steel Magnolias (1989). A year later, when she starred in Pretty Woman, which was arguably the film that launched her mainstream career, Roberts reportedly earned $300,000. The film’s success dramatically increased her earning potential, and before long, she received a $1 million payday for starring in Sleeping With the Enemy. That same year, Roberts also reportedly earned $3 million from Dying Young and $7 million from Hook.

In the mid-late 1990s, Roberts reached a stage where she was being paid upwards of $10 million per film. Her first recorded eight-figure payday came in 1997, when she earned $12 million for My Best Friend’s Wedding. To close out the decade, she received $11 million for Conspiracy Theory (1997), $15 million for Notting Hill (1999), and $17 million for Runaway Bride (1999).

As we briefly mentioned above, the early 2000s were some of the best years of Julia Roberts’ career. This is primarily due to her joining the $20+ million club with roles in Erin Brockovich, The Mexican, and Closer. During this time, her highest-recorded payday was $25 million for starring in Mona Lisa Smile (2003).

There was a short lull in the mid-2000s, but Roberts returned with a $15 million payday for 2009’s Duplicity, followed by $10 million for starring in Eat, Pray Love a year later. From then on, her earnings dropped to between $3 million and $6 million per film.

However, she recently made another comeback in 2023, starring in Leave the World Behind, for which she reportedly received $25 million. This brings Roberts’ earnings for all of her publicly known salaries, if we include her Homecoming salary (more on that below), to a total of $266.4 million. Of course, many films are missing from the list, so the actual number should be significantly higher.

Homecoming Salary

According to a report from Variety, Roberts was paid an estimated $650,000 per episode to star in Homecoming. They initially estimated her salary at $600,000 per episode in 2018 but increased this figure in their 2019 report. The show aired ten episodes in 2018, earning her $6 million.

Highest-Grossing Movies

The majority of Roberts’ highest-grossing films came between 1999 and 2001, the same period during which she made the most money. Those films include Ocean’s Eleven (2001), which grossed $451 million; Notting Hill (1999), which grossed $364 million; Runaway Bride (1999), which grossed $309 million; and Erin Brockovich (2000), which grossed $256 million.

However, none of those films performed better than 1990’s Pretty Woman, which grossed $463 million. The film only cost $14 million to produce, which gave it the highest ROI of Roberts’ career. Other films to make the list include Ocean’s Twelve ($363 million), Wonder ($315 million), and Hook ($301 million).

Here’s a complete list of Julia Roberts’ ten highest-grossing movies:

  1. Pretty Woman – $463 million (1990)
  2. Ocean’s Eleven – $451 million (2001)
  3. Notting Hill – $364 million (1999)
  4. Ocean’s Twelve – $363 million (2004)
  5. Wonder – $315 million (2017)
  6. Runaway Bride – $309 million (1999)
  7. Hook – $301 million (1991)
  8. My Best Friend’s Wedding – $299 million (1997)
  9. Erin Brockovich – $256 million (2000)
  10. Valentine’s Day – $217 million (2010)

Real Estate

The actress likes to invest some of her fortune in real estate, and she owns some incredible properties in the US. She also likes to spend her money on other lavish things, such as clothes. Julia Roberts is the proud owner of a $7 million mansion in Malibu and a lavish apartment in New York, worth a total of $3,8 million.

Reeves then played Jonathan Harker in Dracula alongside Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder, earning critical praise for his role.

In 1995, he landed a leading role in the cyberpunk thriller Johnny Mnemonic and appeared in the romantic comedy A Walk in the Clouds. Following his role in Chain Reaction, Reeves went on tour with Dogstar after turning down a role in Speed 2: Cruise Control. He ended the 1990s by starring as Thomas Anderson in The Matrix, a role that would gain him international recognition.

International Stardom

Due to the success of The Matrix, Keanu Reeves became a household name, but he didn’t let it go to his head.

In 2000, he starred in The Replacements and took a pay cut so Gene Hackman could co-star. He then starred in The Gift (2000) and Sweet November (2001) before his band, Dogstar, disbanded after a decade together. Reeves starred in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2003, released in May and November, respectively.

Two years later, he played the title role in Constantine and then A Scanner Darkly, which premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2008, he appeared in the crime thriller Street Kings and The Day the Earth Stood Still, which garnered a Razzie nomination. He made his directorial debut in 2013 with the martial arts film Man of Tai Chi, and while critics praised it, commercially, it did poorly.

Nothing But Success

Reeves’ subsequent success came with the 2014 film John Wick, which grossed $86 million worldwide and rebounded his career. He reprised this role in 2017 in John Wick: Chapter 2, which was a commercial and critical success, grossing $171 million. In 2018, he reunited with Winona Ryder in Destination Wedding and the following year returned in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

At the same time, he voiced Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4 and then played himself in Always Be My Maybe

A year later, Reeves appeared with Danny Trejo in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, where he played a tumbleweed. Reeves played a significant role in the video game Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC Phantom Liberty as the character Johnny Silverhand.

In March 2023, he reprised his role as John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 4, and in January 2024 started filming Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune

Early Career Salaries

Before mainstream fame through The Matrix and John Wick franchises, Reeves was already earning impressive paydays. However, his earliest recorded salary was just $3,000 for Youngblood in 1986. At the end of the 80s, Reeves received $95,000 for Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Although we don’t know how much he earned for 1993’s Point Break, his first recorded seven-figure salary was $1.2 million for Speed (1994). The film was a huge success, grossing $350 million at the box office on just a $30 million budget. Reeves’ ability to generate such a high ROI instantly increased his salary. In 1995, he earned $2 million for Johnny Mnemonic; in 1997, he earned $8 million for The Devil’s Advocate

The Matrix Earnings

Keanu’s first 8-figure payday was for his appearance as Neo in The Matrix (1999). He was paid $10 million upfront for the role but received a 10% backend percentage, resulting in roughly $35 million in compensation. The sequels scored Reeves upfront salaries of $15 million apiece for The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded, plus a $14 million salary for The Matrix Resurrections.

His reported backend percentage of the profits for Revolutions and Reloaded increased to 15%. When all is said and done, Keanu likely earned between $175 million and $200 million from the franchise, primarily due to backend points.

John Wick Salary

In contrast to The Matrix, Keanu’s earnings from the four John Wick films are a slightly different story. He reportedly earned $1.5 million for John Wick, $2 million for Chapter 2, and $2.5 million for Chapter 3. The franchise’s success made a pay rise inevitable, with Reeves earning $15 million for the fourth installment. Thus, he earned $21 million in total.

Estimated Net Worth

In 2024, Keanu Reeves’ net worth is $380 Million.

Highest-Grossing Movies

While most people know Reeves from The Matrix or John Wick franchises, neither accounts for the top-grossing movie of his career. It was, in fact, his role as Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4, which grossed $1.07 billion worldwide against a $200 million budget.

The original Matrix trilogy ranks second, third, and fifth on his list, accounting for $1.64 billion combined. The fourth film in the franchise, The Matrix Resurrections, missed the list, only grossing $157 million. Two of the four John Wick films made the list: John Wick: Chapter 4 appeared fourth ($440 million), and Chapter 3 at seventh ($328 million). The franchise accounts for $1.03 billion of Reeves’ gross box office value overall.

Here’s a complete list of Keanu Reeves’ ten highest-grossing movies:

  1. Toy Story 4 – $1.07 Billion (2019)
