Introduction
Ronnie DeVoe’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $15 Million.
Ronnie DeVoe is one of the members of the R&B/pop group New Edition, and the R&B/hip hop group Bell Biv DeVoe.
He was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Early Life
Ronald Boyd “Ronnie” DeVoe Jr. was born on the 17th of November, 1967, in Massachusetts.
DeVoe is the son to Ronald Boyd DeVoe and Florence E. DeVoe. He grew up with four siblings and studied at Newton North High School.
In 2006, he married Shamari Fears, the lead vocalist of the group Blaque. The couple welcomed their twin sons Roman Elijah and Ronald III in 2017.
Career
Ronnie DeVoe became the second-to-last member to join the R&B group New Edition when he was brought in by his uncle, the group’s choreographer.
In 1982, the group got their big break after entering a local talent show and gaining the attention of singer and producer, Maurice Starr.
While they came in second, they impressed Starr so much that he decided to help the group record their debut album, Candy Girl.
Although they were far from being the richest singers in the world, their music quickly earned them a ton of fans.
The Hottest Band Of The 80s
After only earning $1.87 a piece for their first tour, New Edition quickly split from Maurice Starr, signing with Steven Machat and AMI.
Through AMI’s affiliate, Jump and Shoot, New Edition released their self-titled second album, which went on to be certified double platinum.
Their third album dropped in 1985, and their growing popularity earned them an appearance alongside LL Cool J in the film Krush Groove.
The group continued to peak in 1986, though Bobby Brown ended up leaving, sparking rumors they might split up.
However, they continued to do well, with their fifth album Heart Break becoming their most commercially successful at the time.
Bell Biv DeVoe
During New Editions’ hiatus in 1989, Ronnie DeVoe, Michael Bivins, and Ricky Bell formed Bell Biv DeVoe and were signed by MCA Records.
Their debut album Poison, was credited with pioneering the “new jack swing” sound of the 90s that fused hip-hop, soul, and pop.
Although Bell Biv DeVoe only released two studio albums in the ’90s, their success was noteworthy, and became one of the biggest bands of the decade.
In 1996, DeVoe and New Edition came back together to release Home Again, their first new album in eight years, which became their most successful.
Sure, it wasn’t one of the best-selling albums of all time, but it was heavily influential and went double platinum in the U.S.
Unfortunately, the group fell apart again soon after, resulting in an indefinite hiatus that saw most members go their separate ways.
While Brown and Gill went on to collaborate with Whitney Houston, DeVoe took a break until 2001 when he regrouped with Bell Biv Devoe.
A New Millenium Of Opportunity
In 2001, Ronnie DeVoe released BBD, Bell Biv DeVoe’s third studio album, and their first since Hootie Mack in 1993.
The following year, New Edition reunited and was signed by Sean Combs to his Bad Boy Records label, since their contact with MCA had ended.
In 2004, they released their seventh studio album, One Love, which debuted at no. 12 on the Billboard Hot 200.
Shortly after, they appeared on an episode of R U the Girl and filmed a concert at the University of South Carolina.
DeVoe reunited with the group again in 2011 for the Essence Music Festival to kick off their 30th anniversary tour.
On his own in 2014, DeVoe landed a cameo in the film Think Like a Man Too with Kevin Hart and Michael Early.
Music And Real Estate
Ronnie DeVoe and Bell Biv DeVoe released Three Stripes in 2017, their fourth studio album, which hit no. 1 on the US Independent Albums chart.
The following year, DeVoe started appearing on The Real House Wives of Atlanta in 2018 when his wife, Shamari, became a regular cast member.
Alongside his wife and Kenya Moore, Ronnie DeVoe became a regular figure on the show, boosting his popularity with viewers.
In 2020, DeVoe expanded his horizons, starting DeVoe Realty, having earned his license in 2002 working behind the scenes.
While he still performs with New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, he is also the co-owner of DeVoe Broker Associates in Atlanta, Georgia.
As for his future, DeVoe and New Edition are set to start a Vegas residency at the Encore in February 2024.
