Introduction

Ever since his father introduced him to boxing as a child, Andre Berto, also known as “the beast”, has dominated in the ring.

After a successful amateur career, the Florida native became a world champion at 147-pounds.

He represented Haiti in the Olympics after being scratched by the American hopefuls due to an incident during the trials.

As of February 2023, Andre Berto’s net worth is estimated to be $30 Million.

Andre Berto Facts

  • When he was only sixteen years old, Andre received a National Golden Glove award in 2001.
  • He competed in his first professional fight in 2004, and in his first ten fights, eight of them were won by knockouts or TKOs.
  • Berto competed for his native Haiti after failing to make the United States boxing team for the 2004 Olympic Games.
  • Early in the contest with Karass, Berto tore a tendon in his right shoulder, which required surgery to correct in August 2013.
  • At the 2003 World Championships, Andre Berto competed for the United States and took home a bronze medal in the welterweight division.

Early Life

Andre Michael Berto was born September 7, 1983, in Winter Haven, Florida, and is a dual citizen of the United States and Haiti.

Although Berto was not born there, the unstable island nation from which his family fled in 1980, holds a special place in his heart.

His father, Dieuseul, a former professional mixed martial artist who competed in UFC 10 in 1996, taught Andre to box when he was just ten years old.

Since making his professional debut in 2004, Berto has established a reputation for being a tough fighter, possessing massive striking power with extremely quick hands.

He was regarded as a rising star in the welterweight division and a promising young boxer in the late 2000s.

Career

In 2003, Andre Berto made his debut, taking home a bronze medal in the amateur division at the World Boxing Championships.

He then won two Golden Glove awards and took home the National PAL championship belt twice.

Berto won 22 state championships in Florida, but there were question marks over his temperament.

In the months leading up to the 2004 Olympics, Berto was expected to join the American boxing team. However, after knocking another boxer to the ground during the trials, he was disqualified under suspicious circumstances and removed from the trials.

Despite this controversy, Berto received an invitation from the Haitian Olympic camp to join their Olympic team to participate in the 2004 Summer Olympics.

After the 2004 Olympics, Andre turned professional and established a reputation by winning fights against opponents like Miguel Figueroa and Norberto Bravo.

When he fought Cosme Rivera in 2007, he prevailed against a tougher opponent than he was used to, winning by decision, and then turned his attention to bigger objectives.

Berto claimed victories over David Estrada and another over Michael Trabant before defeating Miguel Rodriguez to win the welterweight championship in 2008.

Later, he faced off against Steve Forbes and Luis Collazo to defend his title, with Collazo giving Berto a serious challenge.

Victories kept coming against opponents like Carlos Quintana, Juan Urango, Shane Mosley, and Freddy Hernandez.

Victor Ortiz eventually stopped Berto in 2011, but Andre recovered by defeating Dejan Zavec to regain the IBF welterweight title.

Berto ultimately faced Ortiz again in 2016, although he suffered a noteworthy defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015, after doing all the chasing during the fight.

Andre Berto’s last appearance was against Devon Alexander in August 2018, and we never got to see how he would do against Daniel Jacobs, another up-and-coming contender.

Andre Berto’s Career Earnings

From 2004 to 2006, Andre Berto won 15 of his fights and achieved 13 knockouts, with the winnings from these fights setting him up financially for life.

He’s quite open about the fact that he spent far too much money on silly things. He made sure that after his early excesses, he reined in his spending, focussing on investing in his future after his boxing career came to a close.

Here’s an estimated overview of Andre Berto’s annual income:

Andre made a commitment to himself that he would keep his job at the jewelry store despite turning pro. And that he would keep the job until he made his first million.

It didn’t quite work out that way as his fans mobbed the store asking for autographs and not buying any jewelry, so he had to leave.

Andre Berto’s Net Worth Annually

Andre got his first million-dollar cheque at the age of 22 and blew a lot of it on bling, cars, girls, and parties. But he also paid for his first house in cash, realizing that he had to save some of his hard-earned money.

Berto had some very lucrative pay-days in 2019 and 2020, that cemented his fortune and ensured that he’d never have to work again if he didn’t want to.

Here’s a breakdown of Andre Berto’s annual net worth:

  • Andre Berto’s Net Worth In 2016 – $4 million
  • Andre Berto’s Net Worth In 2017 – $4.2 million
  • Andre Berto’s Net Worth In 2018 – $4.5 million

  • Andre Berto’s Net Worth In 2020 – $20 million
  • Andre Berto’s Net Worth In 2021 – $25 million

Andre’s mentality was to pay for everything in cash and avoid racking up debt. So, his cars and parties were all paid for in full with no credit cards or loans to bite him later.

Personal Life

However, after he retired, he revealed that he had wasted a lot of money in strip clubs, gambling, and partying, and it’s something that he regrets.

Awards & Achievements

Andre Berto’s career was quite short and he achieved a great deal, given that he was such a talented boxer.

However, his temperament seemed to hold him back from really making it big, especially in the Olympics.

Here are some of the more memorable moments from Andre Berto’s career:

  • Berto fought his way to two National Golden Gloves, one in 2001 and the other in 2003
  • He won the WBC welterweight title on June 21, 2008.
  • In 2013, Berto was rated as the third-best welterweight fighter in the world.
  • He retained his WBC Welterweight Title 5 times between 2008 and 2010.
  • Berto has a professional record of 37 fights with 32 wins and 5 losses.

Andre carries a devastating punch and his record of 24 knockouts in 32 wins is a testament to this.

Unfortunately, his choice of opponents in his later fights appears to have been made with an eye on the purse rather than on improving his standing as a fighter.

How Does Andre Berto Spend His Money?

Berto bought a small house in Winter Haven, Florida, for roughly $340,000 in 2006.

The house has 2,874 square feet of living area and is located in a gated neighborhood in a cul-de-sac.

Later, in 2017, he attempted to sell this house for $274,000, but it appeared that he had trouble finding a buyer.

It was revealed in 2016 that Berto had given his mother a $1 million home in Winter Haven as a surprise present.

Andre invested $6.62 million in a Beverly Hills, California, house in 2017, and in 2018, he put the house up for sale for $9 million.

Many other famous people live in the area where the house is located, including Corry Hong, Victorino Noval, and tycoon Elaine Wynn.

He enjoys driving some of the most expensive cars in the world with his favorite appearing to be a Rolls Royce. He owned a variety of cars, including Ferraris and Lamborghinis, all paid for in cash.

Highlights

Andre’s fights have always been entertaining, as he has fast hands and graceful movement around the ring.

However, with ferocious power in both hands and the ability to take a punch, a lot more was expected of him over the course of his career.

Here are some of the best highlights of Andre Berto’s career:

  • In June 2008, Andre Berto defeated Miguel Angel Rodriguez via TKO in the seventh round to win his first world title.
  • Berto’s fought his way to two national Golden Gloves, one in 2001 and the other in 2003.
  • In 2010 Andre was rated as the third-best welterweight boxer in the world.
  • At age 31, Berto assisted in establishing the Berto Dynasty Foundation in 2010, which works on community initiatives in Haiti.
  •  Berto’s fight against Mayweather on September 12, 2015, brought in revenue of $28,000,000.

The fight against Mayweather was a little disappointing as the retiring champ spent a large part of the fight showboating.

Ultimately Mayweather’s greater experience kept him out of trouble and Berto came away with points loss and his dignity intact.
