Introduction

Laura Osnes is an American professional actress and singer with an estimated net worth of $2 Million.

New York Post Defamation Lawsuit

In August 2021, Osnes was scheduled to perform in a one-night-only benefit concert of Crazy for You at the Guild Hall in East Hampton, New York. However, she withdrew from the event after being informed that proof of COVID-19 vaccination was required. Osnes stated that she was unable to meet this condition due to personal medical decisions made in consultation with her husband and physician.

On August 12, 2021, an article appeared in the New York Post’s gossip section, Page Six. It was alleged that Osnes had been fired from the production for refusing the vaccination. The article also claimed that she had been vague about her vaccination status and only disclosed it after being coerced by her co-star Tony Yazbeck. Osnes strongly contested the claims, stating that she voluntarily withdrew from the show. She also revealed that her decision had been communicated privately to the production team.

The article led to career-altering repercussions for Osnes, and she lost roles in several productions, including a London concert of Bonnie & Clyde and the Disney Princess concert tour, which she co-created. With growing industry backlash and reduced opportunities, Osnes and her husband relocated from New York City to Nashville, Tennessee.

$5 Million Defamation Lawsuit

On August 18, 2022, exactly one year after the article’s publication, Osnes filed a defamation lawsuit against the New York Post, seeking $5 million in damages. The lawsuit alleged that the article was false in multiple respects, including the claim that she was fired, that she was vague about her vaccination status, and that a co-star pressed her to disclose it. Osnes provided email communications with the production’s director and co-star to support her claims.

In response, the New York Post filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, invoking New York’s anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) law, which protects freedom of the press. They argued that the article was a matter of public interest. The lawsuit was eventually settled in April 2023, and although the financial details have never been made public, Osnes stated that it was “to mutual satisfaction.” She also says that the experience was life-altering, and she has since built a new sense of purpose and community in Nashville.

Introduction

Gwyneth Paltrow is an American professional actress, entrepreneur, and author with an estimated net worth of $200 Million.

Before Wealth & Fame

Growing up in a family of actors and film producers, Gwyneth Paltrow was exposed to the entertainment industry from a young age. Paltrow attended the Spence School in New York City and the Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, California. She later attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied art history but did not complete her degree; instead, she opted to pursue a career in acting.

Paltrow began her career in entertainment as a teenager, appearing in various minor roles in films and television shows. She made her acting debut in the 1989 film Shout and went on to appear in several other movies and TV shows before making her breakthrough in the 1996 film Emma.

Acting Career

In 1998, Gwyneth Paltrow won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love. She appeared alongside Joseph Fiennes, Dame Judi Dench, Ben Affleck, and Colin Firth in a film filled with drama, light comedy, and tragedy.

This was a significant turning point in her career, establishing her as a leading actress in Hollywood who could compete with other top stars. Outside of her acting career, Paltrow has ventured into the business world, launching her lifestyle brand, Goop, which encompasses a website and a line of products centered on wellness and healthy living.

She then wrote several cookbooks to honor her father, who had introduced her to cooking, and released a line of skincare products. Paltrow is particularly interested in women’s health and education and is widely praised for her philanthropic efforts in this area.

Film Salaries

YearProjectSalary

2002Possession$5,000,000
2003View from the Top$10,000,000
2006Infamous$3,600,000
Total Calculated Earnings:$19,350,000

Unfortunately, not many of Gwyneth Paltrow’s film salaries are publicly known. In fact, during our research into her income and net worth history, we found figures for only four of the projects she has worked on. The earliest recorded paycheck of Paltrow’s career was $750,000 for starring as Viola De Lesseps in the 1998 film Shakespeare in Love. Her other known paydays include $5 million for Possession, $10 million for View from the Top, and $3.6 million from Infamous.

Paltrow’s exact earnings from her role as Pepper Potts in the Marvel franchise have never been publicly disclosed. However, in 2014 and 2015, Forbes listed Gwyneth among the world’s highest-paid actresses, with estimated earnings of $19 million and $9 million, respectively. A large chunk of her 2014 income was generated from Iron Man 3. In both years, endorsement deals with Max Factor and Hugo Boss were also considered primary sources of income. Thus, we’re led to believe that Paltrow potentially earned close to $10 million from her role in Iron Man 3.

Goop

In 2008, Paltrow started writing a newsletter called Goop, which she wrote while she was married to Chris Martin and raising her family in London, UK. She wanted to share her passion for wellness, travel, and healthy recipes. However, as the newsletter became increasingly popular, she began to build a loyal audience.

In 2010, as the subscriber base continued to grow, Paltrow expanded Goop from a newsletter into a website featuring expert interviews and wellness guides. In 2012, Paltrow began selling curated products on Goop’s ecommerce store and launched exclusive collaborations with other wellness brands, including Tracy Anderson, Kopari Beauty, and Vintner’s Daughter. Eventually, in 2016, Goop launched its own line of branded beauty products in partnership with Juice Beauty, while also moving its offices to Santa Monica.

Goop’s Funding Round

As the business continued to expand, Paltrow launched a major funding round in 2018 with plans to grow internationally and develop new products. At the time of its funding round, where it raised $50 million, Goop had already tripled its revenue over the previous two years and was on track to double it again that year. This impressive growth attracted major venture capital firms, including NEA, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Felix Capital, to lead the investment round. As a result, Goop employed about 150 people and reached a valuation of $250 million during this period.

False Advertising Lawsuit

Following the investments, Goop continued to grow; however, Paltrow faced criticism over the health claims of some of her company’s products. In September 2018, a group of ten California district attorneys investigated three products after the state’s consumer protection office filed a lawsuit alleging false advertising.

The products in question were the Jade Egg and Rose Quartz Eggmarketed by Goop as tools to balance hormones, and the Inner Judge Flower Essence Blend, claimed by the company to help prevent depression. As part of the settlement, Paltrow agreed to pay $145,000 in civil penalties and to accept a five-year injunction barring Goop from making unsupported health claims for its products. Yet, even amid ongoing controversies, Goop remains a favorite among its followers. However, recent reports suggest that the company might not be the best place to work, as staff often report a chaotic environment.

The company’s future remains to be seen, given the staff layoffs at the end of 2024 and Paltrow’s own interviews, in which she stated that she doesn’t see the company in her future. However, for now, she continues as CEO, and her success with Goop has helped increase her net worth, making her one of the most successful celebrity entrepreneurs today.

Estimated Net Worth

Here’s a breakdown of Gwyneth Paltrow’s annual net worth:

  • 2017 – $182.5 Million
  • 2018 – $186 Million
  • 2019 – $188.7 Million
  • 2020 – $193.6 Million

Highest-Grossing Movies

As you would expect, this Oscar-winning actress enjoyed several high-profile relationships and was previously married to Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin. The couple has two children, but announced their separation in 2014 and followed through with an amicable divorce in 2016.

Paltrow has also been somewhat controversial, particularly regarding health and wellness claims made about products in her lifestyle brand, Goop. She was accused of promoting pseudoscience and making false health claims, but in a recent interview, she revealed that much of what she promoted was just “ahead of its time”.

In 2018, Paltrow became engaged to Brad Falchuk, an American television writer, producer, and director. They got married in September 2018 in a private ceremony in the Hamptons.

Introduction

Jack Nicholson is an American former professional actor and filmmaker with an estimated net worth of $400 Million.

Acting Career

Jack Nicholson started his career as an office worker for animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at the MGM cartoon studio. While he had the opportunity to become an animator, Nicholson turned down the offer to pursue a career in acting instead.

His first time in front of the camera was in a small role on NBC Matinee Theater in 1956, followed by a role in the 1958 film The Cry Baby Killer.

Nicholson continued to build his career throughout the 1960s and, in 1967, wrote the screenplay for The Trip, starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. He landed his first major acting break in 1969, starring in the film Easy Rider, which earned him an Academy Award nomination.

A Prominent Hollywood Actor

Jack Nicholson rose to superstar prominence in the film Five Easy Pieces, which became his persona-defining role, earning him another Academy Award nomination. With the film becoming a blockbuster, Nicholson was hailed as another James Dean or Marlon Brando.

In 1970, he appeared in the film One Clear Day You Can See Forever, and his role in Carnal Knowledge in 1971 earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He then starred in Roman Polanski’s Chinatown, three years before Polanski was arrested for the sexual assault of 13-year-old Samantha Geimer.

Another success of Nicholson’s came in 1975 when he was cast alongside Danny DeVito as Randle McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

A Hollywood Legend

Jack Nicholson took on the role of the Joker in the 1989 movie Batman, which immediately became an international hit. He then starred in A Few Good Men in 1992 and received another Academy Award nomination for his role.

In 1996, he teamed up with Batman director Tim Burton once again, this time on the film Mars Attacks! The following year, he won an Academy Award for his role in the romantic comedy As Good as It Gets.

Entering the new millennium, Nicholson appeared alongside Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give in 2003.

In 2007, he joined Morgan Freeman in The Bucket List and teamed up with Paul Rudd in How Do You Know. This was his final film before unofficially retiring from acting to enjoy a quiet life behind the scenes, following decades in the limelight. While How Do You Know was his final film, bringing his total number of appearances throughout his career to 80, Nicholson still appeared occasionally.

In 2013, he co-presented the Academy Award for Best Picture with Michelle Obama, and in 2015, he made a special appearance on Saturday Night Live. Most recently, Nicholson appeared alongside Lou Adler on an episode of the podcast TF with Marc Maron. Nicholson reiterated that he wants to enjoy life and has no plans to return to acting.

2010How Do You Know$12,000,000
Total Calculated Earnings:$126,187,500

While researching Jack Nicholson’s income during his time as a professional actor, we found figures relating to twenty of his film appearances, totaling $126.2 million. However, two essential things to consider are the fact that this number doesn’t take inflation into account, nor does it include his additional income from backend profits. In most cases, the figures strictly highlight his upfront salary.

Early Film Salaries

The earliest known paycheck of Jack Nicholson’s career was just $12,500 for starring in the 1970 film, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Adjusted for inflation, this equates to roughly $104,000 in today’s currency. Throughout the decade, he gradually began commanding more per film, earning $500,000 from Chinatown (1974) and $75,000 from Tommy (1975).

Towards the latter half of the 1970s, Nicholson not only began receiving seven-figures per film, but also often secured a percentage of the film’s gross revenues. This began with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975, earning $1 million upfront and receiving 15% of the gross revenues. As a result, he earned closer to $15 million when all was said and done.

A similar scenario occurred the following year when Nicholson starred in The Missouri Breaks. However, this time, the film performed poorly at the box office, which left him with just his upfront salary of $1.3 million. Surprisingly, one of the most iconic films of Nicholson’s career, The Shining, didn’t earn him anything on the backend. He also took home $1.3 million. Finally, the last paycheck in what would be considered the earlier stage of his career was $1 million for Terms of Endearment. He also secured a percentage of the film’s profits, bringing the total to roughly $9 million.

Peak Film Earnings

By the late 1980s, Jack Nicholson had begun taking home several million dollars per role. Some of his most notable paychecks during this time were $4 million for Heartburn, $6 million for The Witches of Eastwick, and $5 million for Ironweed

We’ll discuss his earnings from playing the Joker in Batman shortly. However, before we do that, let’s run through some of the most significant salaries Nicholson secured during his final years of acting.

During the ’90s, he received upfront salaries of $10 million from Hoffa, $13 million from Wolf, and $15 million from As Good as It Gets. He also earned $10 million apiece in the 2000s from The Pledge and About SchmidtIn 2003, Nicholson joined the $20+ million club (at least in terms of base salary) when he starred alongside Adam Sandler in Anger Management. For his final film, How Do You Know, he earned $12 million, capping off his career.

Batman Earnings

The reason we held off on discussing Jack Nicholson’s Batman payday was that it was the most lucrative role of his career. To play the Joker in the 1989 film, he was initially offered an upfront salary of $10 million. However, Jack negotiated an agreement to take a lower salary ($6 million), plus a percentage of the film’s profits and revenues from Joker merchandising.

Batman became the highest-grossing film of Nicholson’s career, raking in $412 million at the box office. Merchandise for the franchise was already popular, but until the 1989 film was released, Joker products hadn’t been as popular. Nicholson’s presence in the film elevated the character’s popularity and helped drive a rapid increase in merchandise revenues. Thus, reports suggest that he earned a combined $60 million from the film.

Highest-Grossing Movies

Nicholson’s highest-grossing film of his career is also just one of five movies from the 1980s that grossed over $400 million worldwide. 1989’s Batman grossed $412 million at the global box office against a budget of $35 million. It was the highest-grossing movie of the year by a difference of more than $200 million. Nicholson’s earliest film to make the list was 1975’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which grossed $109 million.

Some notable mentions that didn’t make his top ten include About Schmidt ($106 million), Mars Attacks! ($101 million), and The Shining ($48 million).

Here’s a complete list of Jack Nicholson’s ten highest-grossing movies:

  1. Batman – $412 Million (1989)
  2. As Good as It Gets – $314 Million (1997)
  3. The Departed – $291 Million (2006)
  4. Something’s Gotta Give – $265 Million (2003)
  5. A Few Good Men – $243 Million (1992)
  6. Anger Management – $196 Million (2003)
  7. The Bucket List – $175 Million (2007)
  8. Wolf – $131 Million (1994)
  9. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – $109 Million (1975)

Television Career

Jennifer Aniston began her acting career by working in Off-Broadway shows like For Dear Life and Dancing on Checker’s Grave. However, she could not earn enough money from her acting career, so to support herself, she took on various part-time jobs, such as waitressing. Before landing her breakthrough role on Friends, Aniston starred in various TV shows in the early 1990s, including 13 episodes of Ferris Bueller, in which she played Jeannie Bueller. She also appeared in 7 episodes of Molloy, 20 episodes of The Edge, and 10 episodes of Muddling Through.

In 1994, Jennifer began portraying Rachel Green in the sitcom Friends, working alongside fellow actors Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow. The show became an instant success, and before long, the aforementioned cast members were some of the highest-paid actors on television. The show aired for ten seasons and 235 episodes from 1994 to 2004. It’s still being watched and discovered on streaming platforms by people who weren’t even born when it initially aired.

Film Career

The transition from television to film was much more complicated at the time. Aniston later became known as one of the most successful actresses who made that transition. Some of her initial high-profile film roles included working with actors Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller on Bruce Almighty (2003) and Along Came Polly (2004).

Throughout the late 2000s, Aniston collaborated with numerous well-known actors in films such as The Break-Up (2006), Marley & Me (2008), The Bounty Hunter (2010), Just Go with It (2011), and Horrible Bosses (2011). The roles solidified her transition into the Hollywood film industry, allowing her to work with actors such as Adam Sandler, Jason Bateman, Gerard Butler, Vince Vaughn, and Owen Wilson.

Besides acting in films, Aniston has produced multiple commercials and become a brand ambassador for many well-known companies. Aniston also founded a film production company named Plan B Entertainment.

Friends Salary

For the first season of Friends, the six lead actors each received $22,500 per episode, which is roughly $47,700 today if adjusted for inflation. Aniston earned $540,000 for season one and then received an increase to $40,000 per episode, earning her $960,000 for season two.

The actors banded together throughout the show’s filming, ensuring they received equal pay. Their salary increased to $75,000 per episode for Season Three, $85,000 for Season Four, $100,000 for Season Five, and $125,000 for Season Six. During that time, Aniston earned $9.5 million.

Ahead of season seven, the cast members negotiated an enormous pay bump to $750,000 per episode, plus syndication royalties. Aniston earned $18 million apiece from seasons seven and eight before receiving another bump to $1 million per episode for seasons nine and ten. She earned $24 million for season nine and $18 million for season ten, which pushed Aniston’s total salary from Friends up to $89 million.

Syndication Royalties

When Friends officially ended, the actors negotiated a contract that granted them 2% of the profits from syndication and future reruns. In 2015, USA Today published an article stating that Warner Bros. was earning $1 billion annually from syndication revenue. If true, Aniston would have been earning $20 million yearly from royalties.

However, in 2021, Forbes released different estimates, suggesting that Friends had generated an estimated $1.4 billion in revenue since its debut in 1994. This calculation would have resulted in Aniston’s lifetime royalty income being around $47 million.

After gaining notoriety from Friends in the 1990s, Jennifer Aniston began appearing in films more frequently. Having already earned a reputation in Hollywood, her upfront salary for early film projects was already in the millions. Some of Aniston’s earlier paychecks include $2 million for Picture Perfect, $6.5 million for The Object of My Affection, and $3 million for Rock Star

The movie that jump-started the TV star’s transition was Bruce Almighty (2003), where she starred alongside Jim Carrey. Aniston earned an upfront salary of $9 million from the film, as well as a percentage of the backend, which increased her total earnings to $20 million. This would become a common pay structure for her as her film career progressed. In fact, backend deals account for at least $111 million of Aniston’s total film earnings.

Aniston’s 2004 role in Along Came Polly followed a similar suit, earning her $9 million upfront and an additional $10 million in backend compensation. For the majority of the 2000s and early 2010s, Jennifer’s base salary consistently ranged between $8 million and $9 million per film. This includes films such as Derailed, Rumor Has It…, Marley & Me, Love Happens, The Bounty Hunter, and The Switch.

Peak Film Earnings

While Bruce Almighty and Along Came Polly both earned Aniston in the ballpark of $20 million, they are far from her highest-film paydays. She also earned $9 million upfront for the iconic 2006 film, The Break-Up, starring alongside Vince Vaughn. However, after securing an additional $19 million on the back end, her total earnings amounted to $28 million.

In 2011, Aniston earned a combined $41 million from two films: Just Go with It and Horrible Bosses, of which $20 million was thanks to backend points. Two years later, she earned an impressive $26 million from We’re the Millers, despite accepting just $5 million upfront.

Undoubtedly, Aniston’s most lucrative paydays were generated from the Murder Mystery franchise. The first instalment in 2019 earned her an estimated $45 million, including upfront salary and backend earnings. Its sequel, released in 2023, reportedly secured her a $25 million base paycheck, but she also earned additional money from her producer fee and backend points. It’s unclear exactly how much she banked in total, but the franchise accounts for at least $70 million of her earnings.

Highest-Grossing Movies

While Friends undoubtedly accounts for a large chunk of Aniston’s career earnings, she’s also starred in many box-office hits. She is perhaps one of the most accomplished actors transitioning from television to the film industry. Aniston’s highest-grossing film was 2003’s Bruce Almighty, which grossed $485 million globally against a budget of $81 million. It’s also the oldest movie within her top ten.

Aniston’s other notable box office successes include We’re the Millers, which grossed $270 million on a $37 million budget, and Marley & Me, which earned $256 million. Here’s a complete list of Jennifer Aniston’s ten highest-grossing movies:
