Introduction

Andre Berto is an American professional boxer with an estimated net worth of $30 Million.

Ever since his father introduced him to boxing as a child, Berto, also known as “the beast,” has dominated in the ring. After a successful amateur career, the Florida native became a world champion at 147 pounds.

He represented Haiti in the Olympics after being scratched by the American hopefuls due to an incident during the trials.

Quick Facts

  • When he was only sixteen years old, Andre received a National Golden Glove award in 2001.
  • He competed in his first professional fight in 2004, and in his first ten fights, eight of them were won by knockouts or TKOs.
  • Berto competed for his native Haiti after failing to make the United States boxing team for the 2004 Olympic Games.
  • Early in the contest with Karass, Berto tore a tendon in his right shoulder, which required surgery to correct in August 2013.
  • At the 2003 World Championships, Andre Berto competed for the United States and took home a bronze medal in the welterweight division.

Early Life

Andre Michael Berto was born September 7, 1983, in Winter Haven, Florida, and is a dual citizen of the United States and Haiti.

Although Berto was not born there, the unstable island nation from which his family fled in 1980, holds a special place in his heart.

His father, Dieuseul, a former professional mixed martial artist who competed in UFC 10 in 1996, taught Andre to box when he was just ten years old.

Since making his professional debut in 2004, Berto has established a reputation for being a tough fighter, possessing massive striking power with extremely quick hands.

He was regarded as a rising star in the welterweight division and a promising young boxer in the late 2000s.

Career

In 2003, Andre Berto made his debut, taking home a bronze medal in the amateur division at the World Boxing Championships.

He then won two Golden Glove awards and took home the National PAL championship belt twice.

Berto won 22 state championships in Florida, but there were question marks over his temperament.

In the months leading up to the 2004 Olympics, Berto was expected to join the American boxing team. However, after knocking another boxer to the ground during the trials, he was disqualified under suspicious circumstances and removed from the trials.

Despite this controversy, Berto received an invitation from the Haitian Olympic camp to join their Olympic team to participate in the 2004 Summer Olympics.

After the 2004 Olympics, Andre turned professional and established a reputation by winning fights against opponents like Miguel Figueroa and Norberto Bravo.

When he fought Cosme Rivera in 2007, he prevailed against a tougher opponent than he was used to, winning by decision, and then turned his attention to bigger objectives.

Berto claimed victories over David Estrada and another over Michael Trabant before defeating Miguel Rodriguez to win the welterweight championship in 2008.

Later, he faced off against Steve Forbes and Luis Collazo to defend his title, with Collazo giving Berto a serious challenge.

Victories kept coming against opponents like Carlos Quintana, Juan Urango, Shane Mosley, and Freddy Hernandez.

Victor Ortiz eventually stopped Berto in 2011, but Andre recovered by defeating Dejan Zavec to regain the IBF welterweight title.

Berto ultimately faced Ortiz again in 2016, although he suffered a noteworthy defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015, after doing all the chasing during the fight.

Andre Berto’s last appearance was against Devon Alexander in August 2018, and we never got to see how he would do against Daniel Jacobs, another up-and-coming contender.

Introduction

Lennox Lewis is a former professional boxer with an estimated net worth of $140 Million.

Lewis is a three-time heavyweight champion of the world, and many fans consider him the best British boxer of all time. His matchup with Mike Tyson in 2002 drew a then-record 1.95 million Pay-Per-View audience, earning Lewis millions of dollars in PPV bonuses and the guaranteed purse.

Quick Facts

  • Lewis received the WBC heavyweight championship in 1992 without actually winning a championship match.
  • Lennox won the world heavyweight title by defeating 15 opponents back to back.
  • He was ranked third among all-time heavyweights by Boxing News in 2018, behind Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali.
  • He received the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in 1999.
  • Vince McMahon, the head of World Wrestling Entertainment, reportedly offered Lewis £5 million in 2002 to enter the professional wrestling business.

Before Wealth & Fame

Lennox Claudius Lewis was born on September 2, 1965, in West Ham, London, England. When he was twelve years old, he and his mother relocated to Ontario, Canada, in search of a better and safer life.

Lennox attended Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, Ontario, and actively participated in sports at school, playing basketball, soccer, and Canadian football. When he was thirteen, Lewis decided to make boxing his preferred sport, and after training hard, he achieved success as an amateur boxer.

At 18, he was asked to represent Canada in the Super-Heavyweight division at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. This was after he had performed well, winning a gold medal at the 1983 Junior World Championship.

The International Boxing Association ranked him as the sixth-best heavyweight boxer in the world at the time. He made it to the Olympic quarterfinals but fell to American Tyrell Biggs, who went on to win the gold medal.

Lewis chose to continue boxing as an amateur after the Olympics so that he could participate in the 1988 Summer Olympics. Bulgaria’s Petar Stoimenov defeated him in the 1986 World Championships, but later that year, at the Commonwealth Games, he took home a gold medal.

Boxing Career

In 1989, Lewis returned to England to start a professional boxing career. After signing with boxing promoter Frank Maloney, he went undefeated in his first twenty-two professional fights. He advanced through the ranks swiftly, and in 1992, he consented to take on Donovan “Razor” Ruddock. The winner would then face either Riddick Bowe or Evander Holyfield for a shot at the title.

Lewis knocked off Ruddock in the second round, and Bowe triumphed in his contest against Holyfield, the current champion. Bowe elected to give up the World Boxing Championship title rather than defend it against Lewis, and Lewis received it in December 1992. He was the first British fighter to hold the heavyweight title in the 20th century and defended it thrice.

Lewis lost the title in a controversial fight in September 1994, which the referee ruled a technical knockout. Lewis got up by the count of six, but he then staggered forward, and the referee said he couldn’t go on. After losing his belt, he replaced his previous trainer, Pepe Correa, with renowned boxing trainer Emmanuel Steward.

Lewis and Lionel Butler’s return fight was scheduled to give Lewis the chance to earn back his title if he prevailed, but when he did, the World Boxing Commission opted to provide Mike Tyson with the opportunity to take it. He filed a lawsuit after Tyson won the title, requiring him to make an immediate defense. After resolving the legal dispute, Tyson successfully defended his title against Bruce Seldon before relinquishing it.

Lennox Lewis joins other top British boxers, such as Frank BrunoTyson Fury, and Naseem Hamed, as some of the best world title holders of their era.

Lennox earned hundreds of millions of dollars throughout his career, primarily through guaranteed purses and, more significantly, PPV bonuses. Although his earnings are not as high as those of Manny PacquiaoOscar De La Hoya, or even the legendary George Foreman, he still ranks among the greatest fighters of all time. The fights listed in the above table account for $108.4 million of Lewis’ total earnings, but don’t account for every single one of his fights.

In 1993, Lennox Lewis received a fight purse of $8 million for his bout with Frank Bruno. Two years later, for his 1995 fight against Tommy Morrison, he earned $2.4 million. In 1997, Lewis earned a combined $5 million from two bouts. The first was against Henry Akinwande, where Lennox received at least $1 million; however, the actual amount could be higher. The second bout was against Andrew Golota, reportedly earning Lewis $4 million.

Evander Holyfield Fight Earnings

In 1999, Lennox Lewis fought Evander Holyfield twice in the same year, earning the most considerable sums of his career. For their first bout, Lewis reportedly earned $10 million, while Holyfield earned double that amount, at $20 million. According to reports, both fighters earned $15 million each for the second bout, bringing Lennox’s earnings to a combined $25 million from both fights.

2000s Fight Purses

By the 2000s, Lennox Lewis was earning high seven-figure paychecks per fight. This includes his $7.5 million fight purse against Michael Grant and $8.5 million against David Tua, both of which took place in the first year of the decade. A year later, he received a purse of $11 million for his rematch against Hasim Rahman. Unfortunately, earnings for the duo’s first bout were never publicly disclosed. Before we discuss his Tyson fight earnings, let’s also quickly mention his $7 million purse for fighting Vitali Klitschko in 2003.

Mike Tyson Fight Earnings

Lewis’ fight with Mike Tyson in 2002 was the most lucrative bout of his career. The event sold 1.95 million PPV buys, grossing $106.9 million. Based on reports, 45% of this revenue ($48.1 million) was allocated to cable and satellite operators. The rest was shared between the two fighters, promoters, and networks. Both Lewis and Tyson were guaranteed $17.5 million upfront, and once PPV shares were considered, Lewis earned an estimated $34 million in total. Some sources suggest he earned up to $50 million, but we believe they didn’t account for the promoters’ and networks’ shares of the PPV revenues. Finally, just because it’s worth mentioning, Tyson was fined $335,000 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for biting Lewis’ leg in the press conference… in classic Mike Tyson fashion.

Net Worth History

Here’s a breakdown of Lennox Lewis’ annual net worth:

  • 2017 – $100 Million
  • 2018 – $108 million
  • 2019 – $115 million
  • 2020 – $120 Million
  • 2021 – $130 Million
  • 2022 – $140 Million.

How Does Lennox Lewis Spend His Money?

As you can imagine, as one of the world’s richest heavyweight boxers, Lennox Lewis has bought properties in America, Canada, and the UK. He owns some of the most expensive cars in the world, with more than seven vehicles in his garage, and has made around $20 million in the last ten years as a boxing commentator.

Lewis, a devoted amateur chess player, funded an after-school chess program for underprivileged children, one of whom went on to win a chess scholarship at Tennessee Technical College.

Personal Life

Lewis performed on the “Train of Thought” debut album by the American hip-hop group Reflection Eternal, which was released in 2000. He played a small cameo role in the 2001 film “Ocean’s Eleven”, starring Brad PittGeorge Clooney, and Julia Roberts. In the film, he fights Wladimir Klitschko, a scenario that played out in real life when Lewis defeated Klitschko in the final fight of his career.

He made a cameo appearance in the 2003 music video for the Jennifer Lopez and LL Cool J song “All I Have” and appeared as himself in the comic sports program “The Jersey” in 2002.

In 2006 and 2007, he participated in the World Series of Poker, although he did not take home any prizes. In 2008, he competed against a different caliber of opponent on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, placing fourth overall.

After his boxing career was over, Lewis and his wife, Violet Chang, former Miss Jamaica runner-up, moved to Miami Beach. They are parents to four children: Leviah, Landon, Leya, and Ling.

Summary

When Whyte fought Tyson Fury in 2022, he secured a guaranteed purse of $7.4 million. Had he defeated Fury, he would have earned an additional $4.1 million as a win bonus. The fight earnings were split 80/20 in Fury’s favor, resulting in Tyson earning an estimated $33.6 million from the fight.

Whyte may not have reached the level of some of the highest-paid athletes in the world, but if he continues competing, his earnings could skyrocket.

How Does Dillian Whyte Spend His Money?

Dillian Whyte has a lot of money, but he doesn’t outright flaunt it like some of the richest boxers in the world do with their large houses and super-fast cars. Although he sometimes shares photos from his personal life on his Instagram page, almost all of them are of him training, giving fans little insight into his home, cars, or other spending habits.

While we’re sure Dillian lives a comfortable life with all the money he has made, he certainly doesn’t make a habit of showing it off, which we can respect.

Personal Life

Dillian Whyte has two sons and one daughter, and he fathered his first child at the age of 13, making him one of the youngest fathers in the world. Aside from that, Dillian hasn’t shared much about his personal life, and what he does show on his official Instagram account is mostly training.

On his official Twitter account, he discusses boxing and calls out his rivals, most notably Tyson Fury, using the hashtag #FakeTyson. We’re eager to see if Whyte shares anything about his personal life in the future, but until then, we’ll sit back and enjoy his fights.

Awards & Achievements

Dillian Whyte has emerged victorious in numerous matches throughout his career. Despite not being as well-known as Floyd Mayweather, Whyte has accomplished a lot that has made him a fan favorite in the ring.

Here are some of the greatest boxing achievements of Dillian Whyte’s career:

  • Upon making his professional debut, Whyte went undefeated for 16 matches before losing to Anthony Joshua in 2015.
  • Following his 2015 defeat, Whyte came back with a vengeance to win another 11 matches before facing a loss once again to Alexander Povetkin in 2020, which also ended his reign as the interim heavyweight champion.
  • In 2021, Whyte faced Povetkin in a rematch and reclaimed his WBC interim heavyweight title.
  • Whyte faced off against Tyson Fury in 2022 for the heavyweight title but lost after 6 rounds.
  • Throughout his entire career, Whyte has faced defeat only three times, having won 28 matches in total, 19 by knockout and 9 by decision.

He may not have the record of George Foreman, but if he keeps competing at the level he has been, we expect his achievements will become even more incredible.
