Introduction

Zach Ertz is an American NFL tight end for the Washington Commanders with an estimated net worth of $30 Million.

The Eagles drafted Ertz in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft and later won Super Bowl LII with the team over the New England Patriots when he scored the game-winning touchdown.

Quick Facts

  • Projected to earn $3 million for the 2024 season
  • Lifetime earnings total $74.1 million from salary & bonuses
  • Signed a 1-year, $3 million contract with the Washington Commanders in 2024

Net Worth History

When we first assessed Zach Ertz’s net worth in 2020, it stood at an estimated $16 million. Up until this point, Ertz had earned $42.9 million in the NFL and was close to the end of his rookie extension with the Eagles. Since then, Zach has earned a further $31 million, and estimates of his net worth have increased to approximately $30 Million in 2024.

Career Overview

In 2013, Zach Ertz decided to forgo his senior year at Stanford and enter the NFL Draft, where he was the second-best tight end prospect. Ertz was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the wealthiest NFL teams, in the second round as the second tight end to be drafted.

In May, he signed a four-year contract with the team for $5.37 million, including $3.65 million guaranteed and a $2.29 million signing bonus. While he could not attend team activities before joining the off-season programs, he could still participate in the Eagles’ minicamp.

Ertz’s Beginning In The NFL

Zach Ertz made his professional debut against the Redskins, and made his first career reception on a pass from Michael Vick in the first quarter. Soon after, he made his first career touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Nick Foles during a match against the Oakland Raiders. At the end of his rookie season, the Eagles finished first in the NFC East, and Ertz made his first playoff appearance against the Saints.

In 2014, he remained the primary receiving tight end but was second on the team’s depth chart behind Brent Celek. While the Eagles missed the playoffs that season, Ertz still finished with 58 receptions and three touchdowns in 16 games with five starts.

He remained behind Celek in 2015 and sustained a concussion that sidelined him for Week 12, though he made a quick comeback. Although Celek was the no. 1 tight end for the season, Ertz received more snaps, finishing with 789 to Celek’s 600.

Rising Through The Ranks

In 2016, Zach Ertz signed a five-year contract with the Eagles for $42.5 million, including $21 million guaranteed and an $8 million signing bonus. That season, he was named the starting tight end, and by the end of the year, he was leading his team in touchdown receptions, receiving yards, and receptions.

The following season, Ertz caught two touchdown passes from Carson Wentz but later suffered a hamstring injury and a concussion, which sidelined him for two weeks. Although he was named to his first Pro Bowl, he could not attend due to the Eagles’ success during the playoffs.

On February 4, 2018, he started in Super Bowl LII, caught seven passes for 67 yards, and scored a touchdown. Ultimately, Ertz helped the Eagles defeat the New England Patriots to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. After his Super Bowl win, Ertz started the 2018 season strong and broke Jason Witten’s record for the most receptions by a tight end.

In 2019, he earned another Pro Bowl nomination, but in 2020, he suffered an ankle sprain and was placed on injured reserve in October. After being activated in December, he finished the season with 36 receptions for 335 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Cardinals & Lions

Zach Ertz was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in October 2021 in exchange for Tay Gowan and a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Now on a team with DeAndre Hopkins, Ertz finished the 2021 season with 74 receptions and five receiving touchdowns.

The following season, he signed a three-year extension with the Cardinals but suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 10. Things weren’t looking up in 2023 when he was placed on injured reserve due to a quadriceps injury and then waived after requesting a release.

On January 22, 2024, Ertz signed with the Detroit Lions, joining Ezekiel Elliott and Adam Thielen, though he never made it on the field. That said, his practice-squad deal with the Lions expired on January 28th, when the season ended, making him a free agent.

He spent the last year of the contract playing for the Arizona Cardinals, and in 2022, he signed a new three-year, $31.65 million contract with the team.

With one year left at Arizona, Ertz requested to be released by the team so that he could find a new team that could potentially give him a second Super Bowl ring.
