He played three seasons with the Oakland Raiders. In 2007, he won the Sugar Bowl and received the game’s MVP honors. He was selected by the Raiders first overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. After being drafted by Oakland, he incited conflict by engaging in a contract holdout until the second week of the 2007 season.

JaMarcus Trenell Russell was born on the 9th of August, 1985, in Mobile, Alabama. Russell attended Lillie B. Williamson High School. For four years under head coach Bobby Parrish, he started and never missed a football game. He completed 180 of 324 passes for 2,683 yards and 20 touchdowns.

By the next season, Russell received his first recruiting letters and was becoming more adept with the playbook. He passed for 2,616 yards and 20 touchdowns during his sophomore year and led the team to the semifinals.



In 2003, Russell began his path to a career in football as a child. He played in high school before being signed to Louisiana State University. 

By the 2005 season, he was the starting quarterback for LSU. Russell was a first-round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 NFL Draft. His career took off when he held out during training camp due to contract negotiations.

The same year, he made his professional football appearance when he came in during the second quarter against the Denver Broncos.

Russell completed 4 out of 7 passes for a total gain of 56 years. He eventually became the start for the Raiders in 2009. During the 2009 season, he arrived at the 2010 training camp very overweight, at 290 pounds.

He is considered as one of the biggest busts in NFL history. He played a total of 31 games in which he had a 52.1 completion percentage, 18 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions.

In 2009, Russell signed a 6 year $68 million contract with the Oakland Raiders, of which $32 million was guaranteed. He collected around $39 million in salary.

    Not sure there’s anything to be leaned here other than how to blow the opportunity of a lifetime by being lazy and distracted. $40M and he’s worth $4M, are you kidding me?
