Mirko Filipović was born 10 September 1974 in Vinkovci and raised alongside his older sister and grew up practicing martial arts.

The man who would eventually become known as Cro Cop practiced karate and taekwondo while growing up, and joined the Croatian Army after school.

While in the Army, Cro Cop trained in kickboxing and proved to be a natural, training twice per day and eventually turning professional.

Mirko Filipović joined the ranks of professional MMA fighting in 2001 and won seven of his first 10 matches before being handed his first loss in 2003 by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Cro Cop made his way through the Pride Fighting Championship ranks, though he would lose to Fedor Emelianenko during his chance at the heavyweight championship in 2005’s Fight of the Year.

Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov was born on September 20, 1988, in Kizilyurtovsky District in Russia.
