Favorite Quotes from Shaun Weiss

“Token Jew? Hmm… felt more like the token fat kid. The schools I attended were predominantly Jewish, so for a couple years, there was a bar/bat mitzvah every weekend, sometimes two. It was fun watching them try to top each other. Kept waiting for Streisand to show up and bust out the Hava Nagila.” – Shaun Weiss

“We had three months of hockey camp. Skating didn’t come easy for me—I spent the first month on my ass. Never wanted to quit, but I did wish the movie was about the Oregon football team.” – Shaun Weiss”

“Believe it or not, right after I did `Heavyweights,’ I was so inspired that I went to a real, quote-unquote, fat camp. I was 185 pounds, and I slimmed down to 152. So I went to this audition for the BBC in late August, and they said, `He’s too thin.’ I had to put it back on.” – Shaun Weiss

“We decided to give the producers a little run for their money. I was having hot dogs for lunch, so we got the entire cast to play sick to freak everybody out. We were all complaining, saying `My stomach is killing me.’ Finally, we started throwing up we were faking it. The producers went crazy. They nearly had a heart attack.” – Shaun Weiss

The Passing Of A Legend

Richard Lewis struggled with anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder throughout his life, and these issues were a fixture of his comedy routines.

However, after requiring surgery from falls in 2019 and 2020, Lewis began withdrawing from his role on Curb Your Enthusiasm

In season 11, he appeared in only one episode, and when he came back for season 12, he announced in 2023 that he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Roughly a year later, Lewis died in his home from a heart attack at the age of 76 after a long career.

Soon after, Larry David, the creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm, paid homage to the late star on his long-running show.

Favorite Quotes from Richard Lewis

“I read somewhere that when I go on stage, people realize that they’re not me and they feel better. When I walk off the stage, people know who I really am. I’m not saying it’s great comedy, cool comedy or better comedy – but that’s what I do, and I do it first for myself.” – Richard Lewis

“I’m psyched-up when I do radio. I can reach hundreds of thousands of people in a market. And way psyched-up when I’m on television. For people not to take it seriously is foolish.” – Richard Lewis

“I was 23, and all sorts of people were coming in and out and watching me, like Steve Allen and Bette Midler. David Brenner certainly took me under his wing. To drive home to my little dump in New Jersey often knowing that Steve Allen said, ‘You got it’ – that validation kept me going in a big, big way.” – Richard Lewis

“I never gave much thought to anything since I was 22 years old, when I got into the arts, so when Larry David came to my house in 2000, I didn’t even think about it – I just thought about showing up on the set.” – Richard Lewis

“I was way more comfortable in front of strangers than I was in front of relatives. So when they would laugh at my dysfunctions or my anxiety, I felt less alone, and I still do it for the same reason.” – Richard Lewis
