He was initially going to play for Team USA in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. However, in early January 2017, it was reported that he would not be able to play in the tournament after suffering a stress fracture in the knuckle of his right ring finger.

Lincecum is a graduate of Liberty Senior High School in Renton, Washington. He played college baseball at the University of Washington.

As of June 2024, Tim Lincecum’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $40 Million.

Early Life

Timothy Leroy Lincecum was born on the 15th of June, 1984, in Washington.

His father worked at Boeing. When Tim was drafted, he held out for a more significant signing bonus so his father could retire.

When he was four years old, his father helped him to film his practices and games. Lincecum attended Liberty Senior High School in the Issaquah School District, where he played two seasons of varsity baseball.

As a senior, he was named the state’s Player of the Year.

Career

Tim Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs, one of the richest MLB teams, during the 2003 MLB draft.

However, he opted to attend the University of Washington instead and was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2006.

Lincecum also received a $2.025 million sign-on bonus, which was the highest bonus ever paid to a rookie player at the time.

After playing in the minor leagues for the 2006 season, Lincecum made his major league debut in 2007 against Philadelphia.

A Major Player

During his first season, Tim Lincecum made a name for himself as a skilled pitcher, pitching 177 innings during the 2007 season.

In 2008, he landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated and was selected for the All-Star Game but missed out after he was hospitalized.

Later that year, Lincecum was given the NL Cy Young Award, the second Giants player to earn the award.

The following season, he was named the NL Pitcher of the Month in June and the NL Player of the Week in August.

Thanks to his skills, he earned the Cy Young Award again, becoming the first pitcher to earn the award in his first two seasons.

In 2010, Lincecum was elected to his third consecutive All-Star Team and helped the Giants advance to the World Series.

The Giants beat the Texas Rangers and won the World Series for the first time in 56 years.

While not as prolific as Justin Verlander, Tim Lincecum has proven to be one of the Giants’ best players.

Victories & Records

In 2011, Tim Lincecum struck out 12 New York Mets to surpass the franchise record for the most games pitched with 10 or more strikeouts.

By June, he’d recorded his 1,000th strikeout, but his career started to take a turn in 2012 after he lost six decisions in a row.

Fortunately, he was able to make it to the World Series again and help the Giants sweep the Tigers to win their second title in three seasons.

Lincecum would win his third World Series in 2014 and play once more season with the Giants before becoming a free agent.

In May 2016, Lincecum signed with the Los Angeles Angels, who he stayed with for a season before transferring to the Texas Rangers.

With the Rangers, he signed a one-year contract but started the season on the disabled list after developing a blister on his middle finger.

While he was able to make 10 appearances with the minor league Round Rock Express that season, he was ultimately let go by the Rangers.

Although Lincecum isn’t as well known as Manny Ramirez, he hasn’t yet officially retired from baseball, though he’s said nothing about returning to the field.

That said, he lost his brother unexpectedly in 2018 and then, in 2022, lost his wife, Cristin, to cancer.

Suffice it to say that Lincecum struggled with a lot of tragedy in a short time, so it’s no surprise he hasn’t announced a comeback.

Favorite Quotes from Tim Lincecum

“I threw a lot more curveballs in college and the minor leagues. Up here, they’re looking for that pitch. A curveball is more recognizable out of the hand than a fastball or changeup. They’re taking them or hitting the mistakes I make with them. I don’t want it to be so recognizable. I’ll have to work with that because that was my pitch.” – Tim Lincecum

“I’ve had a lot of offense behind me. That makes it a lot easier for me to go out there and relax, especially when they’re scoring early. It’s a matter of me getting in rhythm and finding a pace that I work well at. I did that a little bit better after the fourth.” – Tim Lincecum

Shortly after that, in his sophomore year, he was nominated for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award.

Along with winning awards and trophies, Anthony played for Team USA but suffered an ankle injury in his first game.

After recovering from his injury, he was named the Rawlings Sporting Goods National Player of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year.

Anthony was selected by the Washington Nationals in the same draft year as Bryce Harper and Max Scherzer, ranking among MLB’s top prospects.

He became a crucial player in the National’s first World Series championship alongside Bryce Harper, with essential home runs in games 6 and 7.

Soon after, Anthony agreed to a 7-year, $245 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, days after the Nationals signed Strasburg to a similar deal.

Suspensions & Standout Plays

Rendon’s 6.7 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) in 2019 trailed only by Mike Trout’s 8.4 WAR, the year Anthony was brought on as an Angel.

During his time with the Angels, Anthony recorded his 1000th career hit in August 2020, unfortunately ending the season with multiple injuries.

Not long after his injury, he hit his first left-handed home run and was involved in a bench-clearing brawl, resulting in receiving a five-game suspension.

Following his five-game suspension, Anthony received another four-game suspension for getting into a physical altercation with a fan in 2023.
