Early Life

She was introduced to the world of tennis at the young age of 4, by her father, Robert Radwanski.

Robert was very serious about tennis and coached Agnieszka’s sister Urszula, who also went on to become a professional tennis player. Agnieszka has revealed she endured harsh and extreme treatment by her father to make her the best in the game.

She achieved success extremely quickly throughout her tennis career. She studied tourism at a university in Krakow despite her busy schedule at the start of her tennis career.

When she first started playing tennis, she was inspired by Martina Hingis and one of the richest tennis players in the world, Pete Sampras, who was also a world champion.

At the start of her career, Agnieszka won multiple junior titles in 2005 at Wimbledon, earning over $18 million in prize money that year. This was only the start, as she then won the French Open Junior title against Anastasia Myskina in 2006.

During the 2006 season, she played at the WTA tournament for the first time, where she was able to advance to the quarterfinals. Her breakthrough came during her 2007 to 2008 season when she became the first Polish player to ever win a WTA title.

The 2010 season was one of the biggest rollercoasters of her career, where she ended the year with a fractured foot. On returning in 2011, she faced her sister Urszula in the US Open, defeating her only to lose during the second round.

2012 marked her highest career ranking as #2, with her win in the Open Era in 2012 making her the first Polish player to reach the Grand Slam. Agnieszka reached the 11th singles title of her career in 2013.

She was coached by Martina Navratilova from 2014 until 2015, ranking #7 and winning a total of 14 career singles titles by the end of that year.

By the end of 2015, Agnieszka was ranked No.5 in the world, with Agnieszka beginning the 2016 season on a high with victories at the Shenzhen Open. The successful year hit a wall when she had to seek treatment for her hand which she injured while playing in the rain at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, Agnieszka suffered too many injuries and in 2018 she announced that she would be retiring from tennis due to her health. She had also fallen to her lowest ranking at the time, and it was obvious that the sport had become too much of a strain toward the end of her career.

Agnieszka joins the ranks of Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, and Chris Evert as one of the world’s best tennis players in the modern game.
