Early Life

Adam Joseph Copeland, AKA Edge, was born October 30, 1973, in Asheville, Canada.

With an absent dad, Edge was brought up by his single mother, Judy Lynn, in a rural town based in Ontario. His mother worked two jobs to try and give her son the most normal life possible.

His passion for wrestling was ignited when he was ten years old and met wrestler, Jason “Christian” Reso. Hugely impressed, he and his friend would sneak out to Maple Leaf Gardens to watch wrestling matches.

The moment he realized that he wanted a career in wrestling was when, at 16 years old, he watched his hero, Hulk Hogan, challenge The Ultimate Warrior. At 17, Edge won an essay competition that offered free wrestling training from Ron Hutchison and Sweet Daddy Siki.

During his teenage years, Edge picked up odd jobs and worked with his mom at factories to help pay the bills. In his spare time, he continued his wrestling training and eventually started using his skills to pay the bills.

After holding various jobs, Edge attended Humber College, where he earned a diploma in radio broadcasting.

Edge then focused on his wrestling career and appeared on the North American independent promotions circuit.

Career

After a bout in WCW, Edge signed a development deal with the WWF in 1997. A year after signing, he made his debut with the new stage name, “Edge”.

He was featured mainly on RAW and PPVs at the time, before teaming up with his story-brother, Christian. The two started a feud with “The Brood”, who were later converted to The Undertaker’s Ministry of Darkness. Edge and Christian went on to compete with many popular tag teams, such as “The Hollys”, “Dudley Boyz”, and “The Hardy Boyz”.

Edge won his first solo title in the King of the Ring Tournament in 2001. After many more successes, he was drafted to SmackDown, where he fought against John Cena, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and many other wrestlers before meeting his end during a match against Alberto Del Rio, where he suffered a major neck injury.

After being sidelined because of his neck injury, Edge returned to deliver an emotional speech about the realities of his wrestling career and how he was retiring due to doctors’ orders. He was diagnosed with Cervical Spinal Stenosis, which meant that one wrong move and he could become completely paralyzed.

Nine years later, he appeared for a final match, where he beat Elias with a spear. This created the rumor that he may be returning, but it was immediately denied and WWE confirmed that it was his final fight.

However, against his doctor’s recommendation, Edge returned to compete in the 2020 Royal Rumble. He beat Randy Orton but was unable to beat Roman Reigns, who defeated him.

In 2021, Edge made an impressive comeback by winning multiple titles and defeating various top wrestlers.

Recently, Edge has returned to help The Mysterios defeat Judgement Day, so follow him on his official Instagram account to keep up to date with his next moves.

Career

Born in Spain, he is the youngest child of Julio Iglesias, recognized as one of the most commercially successful singers, and Isabel Preysler.

He discovered he had a rare condition, situs inversus, which means some of his body’s major organs are situated on the opposite side of his body.

Despite this, in 1981, his grandfather’s kidnapping led them to relocate to Miami for safety, having been sent to live with his father and then-girlfriend.

During this time, Enrique and his siblings were mostly brought up by their nanny, to whom he dedicated his first album.

Dedicating His First Album

Enrique remained under the radar in the music industry as he wanted to make it on his own and not have his famous surname aid him.

Thanks to other successful Latin American artists such as Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, he gained popularity among the public.

Enrique dropped out of university and traveled to Toronto to record his first album, borrowing money from his nanny to achieve his dream.

He then approached his father’s former publicist, Fernan Martinez, who promoted Iglesias’s songs under the stage name “Enrique Martinez,” gaining him popularity.

Shortly after, he was signed with Fonovisa Records and publicly dedicated his debut album to nanny Elvira Olivares.

While signed to Fonovisa Records, he released Enrique Iglesias, which sold half a million copies in one week and was certified Gold.

Meanwhile, five singles were released from the album, and it went on to win Iglesias the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance.

He started doing small tours for the release of his third album, which was followed by a larger world tour sponsored by “McDonald’s.”

By this time, he had won the American Music Award for Favourite Latin Artist for a the second time, this time winning against Ricky Martin and Chayanne.

The song “Nunca te Olvidare,” which won him the American Music Award, became the theme song for a Spanish soap opera.

Enrique was insistent on playing at larger stadiums for his first concert tour that summer and ended up selling out in sixteen countries.

For his first major world tour, he was backed by Elton John and Bruce Springsteen, with the profits exceeding their expectations.

Reaching the Billboard Hot 100

This popularity got the attention of Will Smith, who asked him to contribute a song to his upcoming movie “Wild Wild West.”

Enrique contributed the song “Bailamos,” which became an international hit, peaking at number one on the “Billboard Hot 100” as a single.

Following the success of his new hit song, several mainstream record labels were eager to sign Iglesias, but he chose a multi-album deal with “Interscope.”

He then went on to produce several albums and singles, having collaborated with Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera and Lionel Richie.

A few years later, he released his ninth studio album “Euphoria” under Universal Republic Label, his first bilingual album with English and Spanish songs.

He then collaborated with Pitbull on one of his most successful tracks, “I Like It”, which became a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper.

His hit track “Tonight (I’m Fuckin’ You)” became Iglesias’s first U.S. Pop Songs and Radio Songs airplay chart.

He released the single “Duele el Corazon” under Sony, which topped charts worldwide, and “Subeme la Radio,” which gained 1.3 billion views.

At the same time, he released the singles “Move to Miami” with Pitbull and Bad Bunny, then joined Ricky Martin on tour.

Releasing His Final Album

After nearly a decade, Enrique departed from Universal Music to sign with Sony Music and future albums was to be released by Sony Music Latin and RCARecords.

But Iglesias suddenly announced that he would be launching his final album, “Final,” which will be released in two volumes and featuring rapper Myke Towers.

During the first launch, the album got over 3 billion audio streams and was certified 6x Platinum in the U.S.

Following the release of his final album, he went on to tour with Ricky Martin and Pitbull on the “Trilogy Tour” across North America.

After the tour, Enrique decided to start acting and landed roles with Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas, well-known Latin stars.

Career

Jermaine Dupri Mauldin grew up in College Park, Atlanta, with his parents, Michael Mauldin, a Columbia Records producer, and Tina Mosley.

His artistic career started when his record producer father coordinated a Diana Ross show where Dupri managed to get on stage and dance with her.

A few years later, at twelve, Jermain began his career by dancing for a Hip-Hop group called Whodini.

He appeared in their music video “Freaks Come Out at Night” and began performing around the country alongside Cameo and Herbie Hancock.

His breakthrough came when he opened the famous New York Fresh Festival with Darryl McDaniels, Grandmaster Flash, and Whodini.

Jermaine produced his first act, the female hip-hop trio Silk Tymes Leather’s debut in 1990, and formed Kris Kross a year later.

Shortly after, he released Kris Kross’s “Totally Krossed Out” album, which went multi-platinum due to the success of their singles “Jump” and “Warm It Up”.

Starting So So Def Recordings

A year after, Jermaine established So So Def Recordings and later partnered with Columbia Records in 1993.

He collaborated with Mariah Carey for the first time on her number-one hit single “Always Be My Baby,” and produced with Kriss Kross.

Jermaine has since discovered and signed Xscape to So So Def, as well as Bow Wow, Da Brat, and Anthony Hamilton.

Xscapes debut album, “Hummin’ Comin’ at Cha,” produced entirely by Jermaine, went platinum and multiple singles reached the Billboard Hot 100, such as “Tonight”.

A few years later, he co-wrote and produced tracks on Usher’s “My Way” album and co-produced Destiny’s Child’s debut album in 1998.

That same year, he released his debut studio album “Life in 1472”  and Signed Lil’ Bow Wow to So So Def Recordings in 1999.

Working With Usher

In 2003, Jermaine moved to Arista Records and released his sophomore studio album “Instructions” in 2001, featuring the single “Welcome to Atlanta.”

He also worked on Tamar Braxton’s debut album alongside Lil Wayne and Weezer, on the tracks “Can’t Stop Partying” and “Get None.”

Dupri co-wrote and co-produced hits on Usher’s “Confessions” album and contributed to Mariah Carey’s “The Emancipation Of Mimi” in 2005 which features a smash hit.

The album’s hit song “We Belong Together”, stayed at number one for fourteen weeks straight and won a Grammy for Best R&B Song.

Later that year, Jermaine produced and co-wrote Nelly’s hit single “Grillz,” which shot up the Billboard charts yet again.

He signed Dem Franchize Boyz and Daz Dillinger to So So Def in 2006 and produced Janet Jackson’s “20 Y.O.” album simultaneously.

Jermaine published his memoir “Young, Rich and Dangerous” and later that year co-produced tracks on Jay-Z’s tenth studio album, “American Gangster”.

Winning Awards

He then reunited with Usher, Mariah Carey, and then-girlfriend Janet Jackson for their albums, producing multiple tracks on each of them.

Dupri then produced singles for Ashanti and Nelly in 2008 and replaced Randy Jackson and became Mariah Carey’s talent manager in 2013.

He created and won an award for the well-known reality TV series The Rap Game, which featured Queen Latifah and guests Ludacris and Usher.

The series premiered on Lifetime on New Year’s Day.

It follows the journey of five emerging young artists in their quest to become rap stars.

As if that weren’t enough, Jermaine was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, making him the second musician besides Jay Z to receive this honor.

Most recently, his brand “So So Def” celebrated an exhibit at the Grammy Museum called “Jermaine Dupri & So So Def, 25 Years Of Elevating Culture”.

As well as producing “If I Get Caught” with the R&B duo Dvsn, he released the single “This Lil’ Game We Play” in 2024.

Despite the song receiving little attention from awards, his single featuring artists Juicy J, Nelly, and Ashanti is a massive hit amongst fans.
