Lee Westwood Facts

  • Lee won his best Ryder Cup at the Oaklands Hills Country Club with 4.5 points out of 5 in 2004.
  • After winning his first two playoffs, Lee lost the next five playoffs, each year, from 2007 until 2011.
  • In 2017, Lee hosted the British Masters at the Close House Golf Club in Newcastle.
  • His son, Sam Westwood, has been seen caddying for Lee at the 2021 Masters and Honda Classic events.
  • Lee had not won a single major when he deprived Tiger Woods of his title as World Number one in 2010.

Early Life

Lee John Westwood was born April 24, 1973, in Nottinghamshire, England.

The Westwood family is small, with Lee’s father, John, a math teacher, his mother, a housewife, and Yolanda, his younger sister.

Lee attended both Sir Edmund Hillary Primary School and Valley Comprehensive School and was an athletic child.

He took an interest in various sports, such as cricket, football, and rugby. Lee was introduced to golf at the age of 13 when his grandparents gave him a half set as a gift.

Even though he started later than most other golfers, he still managed to end up playing for the Boys Home Internationals in 1989.

Lee had an obvious talent for golf and won his first amateur tournament, receiving the Peter McEvoy Trophy in 1991.

After he won the British Youth Open Amateur Championship in 1993, Lee decided to take his golf more seriously and turned professional.

Career

Three years after turning professional, Lee won his first tournament at the Volvo Scandinavian Masters in 1996.

Not long after, he won the Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters in Japan and 1997, won the Malaysian Open, the Volvo Masters in Spain, and the Holden Australian Open.

Lee had a successful year in 2000 when he won several worldwide tournaments and was able to earn the European Order of Merit.

This marked the end of Colin Montgomerie’s seven-year dominance of the European Tour.

From 2001 until 2009, Lee was able to achieve another six victories and ended the 2009 season by winning the Inaugural Dubai World Championship.

He joined players like Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, and Greg Norman as one of the outstanding players of his generation.

Westwood then won his second European Tour Order of Merit and became the first official “Race to Dubai” champion.

One of Lee’s most memorable moments came in the 2010 Ryder Cup when he toppled Tiger Woods’ five-year dominance of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Lee held the number one title for 22 weeks and earned an OBE for his service to Golf in 2012.

Lee Westwood’s Career Earnings

Westwood spent 160 weeks in the top ten rankings between July 1998 and August 2001, after first reaching the Official World Golf Ranking pinnacle.

Westwood dethroned Tiger Woods as the top golfer in the world in October 2010. He then held onto the top spot for a further 17 weeks before he was himself toppled by Martin Kaymer, who had beaten Bubba Watson earlier in the season.

Here’s an estimated overview of Lee Westwood’s annual income:

  • Lee Westwood’s Salary In 2013 – $4.1 million

Westwood was suspended from the PGA Tour in June 2022 for taking part in a LIV Golf competition.

Unfortunately, due to the stresses of travel and being apart, Lee and Laurae decided to finalize their divorce in 2017.

He eventually married his current wife, Helen Storey, in Las Vegas in 2021 and the couple now lives in Jesmond, Newcastle.

Lee’s wife is a great fan of her husband and can be spotted caddying for him on many tours.

Favorite Lee Westwood Quotes

Lee Westwood knows the value of staying focused and credits his ability to exclude what’s going on around him as one of the reasons for his success.

He is also pragmatic about his results, noting that golf is a difficult game to predict and one is never sure how one will perform each day.

Here are our favorite quotes from Lee Westwood:

  • “Golf is played between the ears and if you are not 100 percent focused on what you are trying to do, then people will go past you no matter who you are.” – Lee Westwood
  • “Racehorses are like golfers, you’re never sure how they’re going to come out of the stalls.” – Lee Westwood
  • “You don’t win tournaments by playing well and thinking poorly.” – Lee Westwood
  • “No, I don’t have any problems leaving disappointments behind. I’ve had lots of good days at golf and a few disappointments, so you never know what’s around the corner.” – Lee Westwood
  • smallest”It’s such a psychological and mental game, golf, that the smallest thing at the wrong time can distract you from what you’re trying to achieve.” – Lee Westwood

3 Amazing Lessons From Lee Westwood

Lee Westwood was able to blot out distractions and focus on his golf during major tournaments.

This led to his amazing performances and he credits the psychological part of the game as almost as important as mechanical golf skills.

Now that you know all about Lee Westwood’s net worth, here are some of the best success lessons to learn from Lee Westwood:

1. Don’t Get Distracted

Lee tries not to let distractions stop him from achieving his main goals.

Sometimes, life dramas and random situations can distract you from achieving what you want.

But don’t let small arbitrary things divert your attention, stay focused and get to where you need to be.

2. Keep Your Emotions Under Control

Westwood feels that it is sometimes best to take the emotion out of one’s work.

Separating emotions from work will help you achieve more and to become the best you can be.

Emotion can stop you from making crucial decisions and, these days, the toughest decisions can sometimes be the most important for reaching your long-term goals.

3. Take Ego Out Of The Equation

Lee finds that his ability to not allow his ego to get the best of him is worth a good few strokes in each game.

Even when Lee is winning world championships, he tries not to let that define him as a person.

Summary

Lee Westwood is enjoying an amazing career where he’s broken records and stunned his fans and competitors alike.

Luckily for his fans, he is not finished yet and continues to outshine his competition on the golf course.

Currently, Lee ranks at number three in the world, but he is incredibly competitive and remains a threat to Rory Mcllroy, who’s currently the world’s number one!

As of March 2023, Lee Westwood’s net worth is estimated to be $40 Million.
