When Messi was 13, he was offered a chance to train at FC Barcelona’s youth academy. The school also offered to pay for his medical treatment, so his whole family moved to Spain. During his first season, he scored 36 goals in 30 games as the top scorer. Following this season, he quickly moved through the ranks and became noticed by professional teams.

Professional Soccer Career

Lionel Messi's Career

At 16, Messi started playing for FC Barcelona and became the youngest player to score a goal for the franchise. That season concluded with Messi leading his team to an under-20 World Cup title.

In 2009, he led Barcelona to capture the Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Super Cup titles. Despite setting records at a young age, Messi strove to improve his skills. In 2012, he passed the record for most goals scored and became Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer. He also set the record for most goals scored in a single calendar year.

2017-2018 started with Messi extending his goalscoring record. Despite injuries that have plagued him in past seasons, Messi has proven himself a valuable player for Barcelona.

In March, he became the second player to score his 99th and 100th Champions League goals. His efforts this season have led Barcelona to the quarter-finals for the eleventh consecutive season.

Barcelona Salary

The above table features estimates of Lionel Messi’s annual salary based on the contracts he has signed throughout his career. We could not find figures relating to his first few years with Barcelona, between 2004 and 2006.

According to Forbes, Barcelona increased Messi’s annual salary to €8.5 million ($11.3 million) in 2007. In 2009, his salary was increased to €11 million ($14.6 million); in 2012, it was increased again to €16 million ($21.2 million). For the years between the above pay rises, we don’t know whether his salary remained the same for all the years leading up to the subsequent increase.

By 2013, Messi was earning approximately €20.5 million/year ($27.1 million), and he saw astronomical rises in his salary for the remainder of his time at Barcelona. In 2016, his salary jumped from €28.5 million ($31.5 million) to €38.3 million ($43.5 million). By 2018, he was receiving €71 million/year ($83.3 million) in base salary.

In 2021, after seventeen seasons with the club, Messi left Barcelona, having earned approximately €435.5 million ($524.7 million), likely closer to €450 million ($542.5 million), including 2004-2006.

PSG & Inter Miami Earnings

From 2021 to 2023, Messi played two seasons with PSG, earning a combined €127.3 million ($150.8 million). In 2023, he signed with Inter Miami, earning a base salary of €11.4 million ($12.2 million). While that figure might seem low, there are two important things to mention:

  1. A €11.4 million ($12.2 million) base salary makes Messi the highest-paid player in the MLS.
  2. As part of the agreement, Messi secured a profit-sharing deal with Apple and Adidas, two of the MLS’ biggest partners. This is projected to push Messi’s total earnings from his contract to $60 million/year.

Later in the article, we’ll look at Messi’s endorsement deals and estimated total earnings, which factor in his other income sources. However, regarding base salary and bonuses, Lionel Messi is estimated to have earned roughly €600 million ($699 million) during his career.

Visit Saudi Endorsement Deal

In 2021, Messi signed a three-year endorsement contract with the Saudi Arabian government as part of their Visit Saudi tourism campaign. The country has been making efforts to boost tourism and improve its reputation in recent years. The New York Times obtained details of the contract, which is reportedly worth almost $25 million over three years.

Messi’s agreement contained four annual obligations for which he would be paid $2 million each. They are as follows:

  • Take at least one five-day family vacation or two three-day vacations to Saudi Arabia within the year. The government will pay for five-star accommodations and travel expenses for Messi and up to twenty of his family and friends.
  • Participate in an annual tourism campaign, typically involving video advertisements.
  • Promote Saudi Arabia on his social media ten times yearly with the hashtag #VisitSaudi.
  • Lastly, participating in charitable work and special appearances.

All four terms are worth $2 million individually, equating to $8 million per year and $24 million during the contract’s lifespan. The contract does contain one crucial stipulation: Messi must not say anything that could “tarnish” Saudi Arabia’s reputation.

He is rumored to have bought the most expensive car ever, a 1957 Ferrari 335 Sport Spider Scaglietti, at auction for $37 million.

Lionel enjoys traveling by his private jet, which is valued at $15,000,000 and includes a kitchen, two bathrooms, and 16 seats that can be folded into beds. During the summers, Messi travels with his family on a yacht, which can cost $50,000 per week.

While most of them ranged between $540,000 and $650,000, his 2021 deal paid him $6.49 million.

Carbon Health Investment

In 2021, Matt Chapman, alongside numerous other individuals and institutions, invested in Carbon Health, a chain of healthcare and telemedicine clinics, headquartered in San Francisco. The investment occurred during Carbon Health’s 2021 funding round, during which it secured $350 million from investors to help place the company in 1,500 locations by 2025.

While the bulk of the funds were invested by institutional participants, including Fifth Wall, Hudson Bay Capital, Intersect Capital, and Lux Capital, several celebrities also became individual investors. Chapman was not the only high-profile athlete to get involved in Carbon Health’s funding round. Other notable investors included fellow MLB player Nolan Arenado, NBA stars Klay Thompson and Khris Middleton, as well as the former NFL quarterback Alex Smith.

While the exact figure Chapman invested is unknown, the company was valued at approximately $3.3 billion at the time. However, it’s worth noting that this round of fundraising occurred just after the COVID-19 pandemic, when health companies were experiencing rapid growth. Carbon Health launched another funding round in 2023, securing $100 million at a market capitalization of $1.4 billion, representing a decline of over 50% since 2021.

Introduction

Jason Alexander is an American professional actor and comedian with an estimated net worth of $50 Million.

Before Wealth & Fame

Growing up in New York City, Jason Alexander initially aspired to become a trained magician. Still, he later realized he didn’t have the sleight-of-hand skills necessary to become a professional. Fortunately, he was also passionate about Theatre and attended Boston University to study the subject. However, he dropped out just before graduating because he had already found professional acting opportunities that he couldn’t pass up. In the 1980s, he was featured in various TV commercials, the most notable of which included advertisements for Levi’s jeans and Hershey’s Kisses. In addition, he lent his voice to some of the early McDonald’s advertisements.

Seinfeld Salary

Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, and Julia Louis Dreyfus were paid equal salaries throughout all nine seasons of Seinfeld. We don’t know exactly how much they earned from seasons one through four, but we have information on Jerry Seinfeld’s salary during that time. For comparison, Seinfeld earned $20,000/episode for the first season, $40,000/episode for seasons two and three, and $100,000/episode for season four. Naturally, his salary would have been significantly higher than that of his three co-stars.

In 1993, Alexander, Richards, and Dreyfus secured salary increases to $160,000 per episode. Alexander earned approximately $3.52 million for season five, $3.68 million for season six, and $3.52 million for seasons seven and eight.

In 1997, the trio threatened to quit Seinfeld if they weren’t paid $1 million per episode. They eventually agreed to $600,000 per episode, earning Alexander an estimated $13.2 million for the show’s final season. Overall, this would equate to Jason Alexander earning a total of at least $27.4 million from Seinfeld. While this doesn’t include earnings from seasons 1-4, Jerry only earned $3.8 million during that time. Thus, Alexander will have earned less than this figure, likely bringing his earnings closer to $30 million.

Real Estate

Jason Alexander owns a 4,926-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Los Angeles, California. Based on recent estimates, the property is currently valued at approximately $5.75 million. He reportedly bought the house in 2002.

Philanthropy

Alexander was the national spokesman for the Scleroderma Foundation. He has supported various charities, including Ante Up For Africa Children Mending Hearts, Children’s Tumor Foundation, ENOUGH Project, Feed the Children, LEAP Foundation, Lupus LA, Neurofibromatosis, Inc., Not On Our Watch, Scleroderma Foundation, and United Way.

Highest-Grossing Movies

Despite being best known for his work in television, Alexander has also had a somewhat impressive run at the box office, grossing over $1.2 billion globally. The bulk of this, almost $1 billion, is attributed to just three films, including Pretty Woman, which grossed $463 million, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which grossed $325 million.

Here’s a complete list of Jason Alexander’s ten highest-grossing movies:

  1. Pretty Woman – $463 million (1990)
  2. The Hunchback of Notre Dame – $325 million (1996)
  3. Shallow Hal – $141 million (2001)
  4. Agent Cody Banks – $59 million (2003)
  5. The Paper – $48 million (1994)
  6. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale – $47 million (2009)
  7. The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle – $35 million (2000)

Introduction

James Cameron is a Canadian professional filmmaker and environmentalist with an estimated net worth of $700 Million.

Cameron has produced 51 films throughout his nearly five decades in the entertainment industry. However, his backend profits from just three of those films account for almost $1.1 billion of his total income. These three films are, of course, Titanic, and the two Avatar installments, which grossed a combined $7.5 billion at the global box office, plus additional billions in merchandising and media revenues.

Quick Facts

  • Earned an estimated $650 million from Titanic
  • Films have grossed over $11 billion at the global box office
  • Earned roughly $445 million from the two Avatar films

Before Wealth & Fame

Growing up in Ontario, Canada, James Cameron and his family moved to California when he was a teenager. He briefly attended Fullerton College to study physics but ended up dropping out. People might not know that Cameron worked numerous jobs before becoming a successful filmmaker. The most notable of these was his work as a truck driver, and he would often read books on cinematography and special effects between shifts to learn about the art of filmmaking.

Cameron’s first job in the film industry was building miniature models at Roger Corman’s studio. He also worked in other roles as part of a film crew on set design, backdrops, and special effects to fully understand how films are made. With all of these jobs, he learnt the skills solely by borrowing library books on the individual subjects

Titanic Earnings

According to our research, the success of the 1997 film Titanic is responsible for the bulk of James Cameron’s career earnings, and has earned him even more compensation than Avatar. Cameron reportedly secured an $8 million upfront salary to direct the film, but when the production cost began running over budget, he forfeited his salary to ensure that costs weren’t cut.

As a result of forgoing his $8 million paycheck, Cameron negotiated a deal that would pay him between 10% and 15% of the profits after breaking even. The film’s budget grew to an estimated $200 million in total, which at the time, broke the record for the most expensive movie ever produced. However, when it was released, the film initially grossed $1.84 billion, and subsequent re-releases increased the total to $2.26 billion.

Box Office Earnings

Titanic was the first film to ever gross over $1 billion, and made Cameron a ridiculous sum of money. Typically, theatres take between 40% and 50% of the gross, which would have been between $900 million and $1.1 billion. With a $200 million production cost and potentially another $100 million for marketing, this brings the remainder to between $900 million and $1.1 billion in profit. If Cameron received 15% of the profits, he would have earned in the ballpark of $150 million from box office revenues.

VHS/DVD Earnings

According to the data, Titanic sold 25 million VHS tapes in the United States and was later also released on both DVD and Blu-Ray. The total revenue from these sales exceeded $1 billion globally, which likely netted Cameron an additional $100 million.

Additional Earnings

After considering box office and DVD sales, we still need to consider licensing revenues for television and streaming platforms, as well as merchandising and theme park rides. In total, James Cameron has earned an estimated $650 million from Titanic in the past three decades.

Avatar Earnings

After realizing just how much money he could earn from backend percentages compared to upfront salaries, James Cameron followed a very similar deal when it came to 2009’s Avatar. When Avatar was released, it grossed $2.92 billion worldwide, and even though sixteen years have passed since then, it’s still the highest-grossing film ever released. Cameron reportedly earned $350 million from his backend percentage in the film.

The second film, Avatar: The Way of Water, was released in 2022 and grossed $2.32 billion worldwide. Although it wasn’t as successful as the original, it became Cameron’s third film to exceed $2 billion in box office revenues. Reports suggest that he earned $95 million from Way of Water, bringing his total earnings from the franchise to $445 million.

Highest-Grossing Movies

Here’s a complete list of James Cameron’s ten highest-grossing movies:

  1. Avatar – $2.92 billion (2009)
  2. Avatar: The Way of Water – $2.32 billion (2022)
  3. Titanic – $2.26 billion (1997)
  4. Gravity – $773 million (2013)
  5. Terminator 2: Judgment Day – $521 million (1991)
  6. Terminator Genisys – $441 million (2015)
  7. Pacific Rim – $411 million (2013)
  8. Alita: Battle Angel – $405 million (2019)
  9. True Lies – $379 million (1994)
