Favorite Quotes from Tommy Tuberville

“We appreciate the hard work and efforts that David gave to the Auburn football program over the last year. He did an excellent job as our defensive coordinator this past season, and I know he’ll continue to be successful in the future.” – Tommy Tuberville

“We’re glad to have him back. I was one of the guys that said we were going to miss him because he brought a lot to our conference. He brought a lot of interest back. We look forward to playing him.” – Tommy Tuberville

“He’s got great presence on the field, in the huddle, at the line. Even when there’s pressure around him in the pocket, even with six or seven people (rushing) and he’s got to get rid of it, Brandon always looks like he’s in control. That’s the sign of a good quarterback.” – Tommy Tuberville

“We’ll play when we get there, I guess. It’s not our fault that we can’t get down there. You’d love it if this game had been in the day where you could have a little leeway in case there’s bad weather. Obviously, the conference is not worried about that, so we’re just going to go down there and play, and hopefully we can get down there in time.” – Tommy Tuberville

“We called practice off on that Sunday and basically said we’ll meet back here tomorrow afternoon, everybody goes home and make sure everything’s safe. You don’t realize the devastation that happens. It’s like a bomb that goes off. In the Miami area, there wasn’t any water, food . . . or electricity for a month.” – Tommy Tuberville

“We always win some, we always lose some. This year, we probably won more than we have the last few years. We probably had more success today than we thought we were going to, and that always makes you feel good. Our guys worked hard, they did an excellent job in selling the program. It’s been a good month.” – Tommy Tuberville

He grew up and graduated from Monongah High School, where he married Terry Constable.

Saban attended Kent State University, where he earned his master’s degree in sports administration.

Saban played defensive back for Kent State University during his early life and decided later to enter the coaching ranks.

Don James hired him as a graduate assistant, and Saban later served as an assistant coach in NCAA Division I-A at several schools.

Career

Nick Saban was hired as an assistant at Kent State and later worked as an assistant coach in NCAA Division I-A at various schools throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

After 1987, which he spent with Michigan State, Kent State declined to make Saban their head coach, and he was hired by the Houston Oilers.

Now in the pro leagues, Nick Saban was on his way to coaching some of the richest NFL teams in America

Building Up His Teams

Following a stint with the Oilers, Nick Saban was hired by the University of Toledo, and he helped the Rockets find success.

With him as their coach, the team became the co-champions of the Mid-American Conference, though Saban resigned after only one season.

He then became the NFL’s defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns and remained in the position for four seasons.

In 1995, Saban became the head coach of Michigan State, and he helped them reach their season bowl games three times consecutively.

Saben left Michigan in 2000, but not before the Spartans earned the most wins in a season since  1965.

At this point, Nick Saban gradually became one of the most influential people in football.

A League-Renowned Coach

In 2000, Nick Saban became the head coach of LSU, though his first season with them was marred with losses.

However, he returned strong in 2001, leading the team to an SEC Championship and Sugar Bowl Victory.

The LSU Tigers continued performing strongly under Saban’s leadership and, in 2003, set a single-season record with 13 wins.

After the 2004 season, Saban left to coach the Miami Dolphins, and he helped the team finish with a 9-7 record.

In 2006, Saban almost selected Drew Brees for the Dolphins but traded for Daunte Culpepper, who ultimately remained on injured reserve.

After that blunder, Saban had his first losing season as a head coach but was quickly hired by Alabama in 2007 to lead the Crimson Tide.

The Crimson Tide

Once he accepted the offer to become Alabama’s head coach, he quickly built up his team to be the best.

After a 7-6 ending to the 2007 season, Saban ended the 2008 season undefeated for the first time in his career.

As well-known as some of the wealthiest NFL players in the world, Saban appeared on the cover of Forbes as “The Most Powerful Coach in Sports.”

Saban’s Crimson Tide continued to sweep the sport, and in 2011, Alabama was ranked no. 2 in the nation in the AP Poll and Coaches Poll.

By the end of the year, Saban became the only coach in college history to win three BCS Championships.

The following season, Alabama won back-to-back national titles before hitting a slump until 2015.

The Tide maintained an outstanding record until 2023 when Saban announced his retirement from coaching after the season’s end.

Saban finished his career with Alabama with a 201-29 record and the most national titles in college football history.

“The good is enough attitude is not what we’re looking for, we have got to use every opportunity to improve individually so we can improve collectively.” – Nick Saban

“Recognize certain traits that seem to be in every champion: passion, commitment, confidence, pride in performance, high standards of excellence, relentlessness, perseverance, and the ability to perform in adverse circumstances.” – Nick Saban

“Dominant teams rarely are outplayed or outclassed, but they sometimes beat themselves. Just because you are dominant does not mean you are infallible. Remember that dominance does not mean perfection; a lack of focus for even a short period of time can cost you. Do not relax when you are far ahead or dominating your marketplace. That is the time to push even harder.” – Nick Saban

“The difference between belief and trust can be monumental. We may believe in others, but do we really trust them? To firmly trust people means putting your own successes and health in their hands.” – Nick Saban

“That’s the mentality champions have. Winning on the road in sports or going into a rival company’s region and winning just feels better. Instead of seeing the challenge as We have to, we should see all challenges as We get to.” – Nick Saban

“As a leader, you cannot force the opposition to feel they can’t succeed— they will do that on their own. But you can lead your team to such dominance that giving in becomes the opposition’s only solution. Keep on your team to push hard and, eventually, the other team will submit.” – Nick Saban
