Early Life

Walter Ray Allen was born July 20, 1975, in Merced, California, at the Castle Air Force Base, to Flora and Walter Sr.

Growing up, Ray spent time in Suffolk, England, Altus, Oklahoma, and Air Force bases in California and Germany.

After years of travel, the Allen family settled in Dalzell, South Carolina, where Ray attended high school and excelled at nearly every sport he played.

In 1993, Ray decided to attend the University of Connecticut, and while there, he was named USA Basketball’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Ray played for Connecticut until he was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1996.

Ray Allen joined the Milwaukee Bucks after the 1996 NBA draft and quickly made himself one of their most valuable players.

Following the 1998-99 NBA lockout, Allen signed a six-year contract with the Bucks for $70.9 million, making him the highest-paid player in franchise history up to that point.

In 2003, he was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics, where he would play until 2007.

With the SuperSonics, Allen became the 97th player in the history of the NBA to score 15,000 points.

He was later traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, who he would remain with until 2012.

While playing for the Celtics, he was honored in 2008 as the 3rd greatest player in the franchise.

In 2012, Allen was traded to the Miami Heat, who he would play for until his retirement two seasons later.
