Favorite Quotes from Iman

“My father taught me how to be a parent and gave me a positive connection with men because he is a gentleman.” – Iman

“Your image as a model is your currency. That’s the only thing you’ve got. No one cares what you look like in real life. Nobody is going to say the make up guy was terrible. They will say, you look awful and let’s not book her again.” – Iman

“The relationship I have with Bethann [Hardison], it’s so unique. It’s based on trust. But most importantly, Bethann is the one who will call on me if I’m doing something wrong. That’s a very specific relationship.” – Iman

“No one is calling any of these designers racist. The act itself is racist. There were more black models working in the Seventies than there are in 2013. This a time when silence is not acceptable at all. If the conversation cannot be had publicly in our industry, then there is something inherently wrong.” – Iman

“My worst year. The only thing that I know for a fact now is that if it’s really a bad day, then I draw the curtains, and I lay in bed. There is no way of dealing with grief. And I have no idea. This year I had double of them, my mother and my husband. I just take it one day at a time.” – Iman

Modeling is truly one of the very professions, like being an athlete, that you can become better at by keeping your eyes open and constantly learning on the job and, most importantly, off the job.

Immerse yourself in fashion history by looking at vintage magazines, photos, poses, lighting, etc.

Jane married Leonard Holzer, an heir to a New York real estate fortune, and entered the social circles of New York’s elite.

Holzer’s marriage to Leonard Holzer, an heir to a New York real estate fortune saw Jane joining the elite of New York society.

Jane was one of the most influential actresses of the ’60s and ’70s, as popular as Jennifer Lawrence and  Emma Watson are today.

Her connection to Warhol inspired the name “Pop Art” for her Olympic horse which excelled in dressage and became a beloved part of her family.

Once in the business, Kathy appeared on the covers of many magazines including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Seventeen, Teen, Shape Fitness, and Forbes

However, early on when she was 17, she had her first uncomfortable experience, when a photographer wanted her to pose topless.

When she said no, he proceeded to push her, which resulted in her laying down the law and punching him in the face.

A Model And Actress

In 1989, Kathy Ireland appeared on Sports Illustrated swimsuit’s 50th Anniversary cover, which was hailed as the greatest cover of all time by the publisher.

Ireland had quickly become one of the hottest cover girls in the world, but she wasn’t keen on being just a pretty face.

Inspired by models like Kate Upton and Heidi Klum, Kathy Ireland started seriously considering entrepreneurship to further her career.

Of course, along with modeling, Ireland started acting in 1988, when she appeared in her first film, Alien from L.A.

After getting advice from Warren Buffett, Ireland entered the home furnishing business in 2003, marketing products from 16 manufacturers and selling goods in 14 countries.

Between 2005 and 2012, her company was generating $2 billion in retail sales, earning her the title of the world’s richest model.

In 2012, she launched her own line of wedding gowns, which she presented at the Festival of Brides fashion show at the Disneyland Resort.

Soon after, she designed a collection of jewelry inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, as well as a collection of pet products called Loved Ones.

A few years later, she was named one of the most successful self-made women by Forbes in its first-ever list of that kind.

At this point, Ireland was one of the richest women in the world, and she had no desire to sit back and retire with her fortune.

In 2016, she launched Diamonds by Kathy Ireland, a collection of jewelry that premiered at the High Point Market Trade Show.

The following year, Ireland became the ambassador for American Family Insurance and ventured into the shipping container business, partnering with SG Blocks.
