Introduction

As of July 2024, Jeremy Clarkson’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $70 Million.

Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson is an English journalist, broadcaster, and writer from Doncaster.

Clarkson specializes in motoring and is best known for being the host of the BBC TV show ‘Top Gear’ alongside James May and Richard Hammond.

He currently also writes weekly for the magazines ‘The Sunday Times’ and ‘The Sun’.

Early Life

Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson was born in Doncaster, England on April 11, 1960.

He is the son of Shirley Clarkson and Edward Clarkson.

His parents, who ran a business selling tea cozies, put their son’s name down in advance for private school.

When Clarkson was 13 years old, his parents made two Paddington Bear stuffed toys for each of their children. The bear proved so popular that the family began to sell them.

Clarkson attended Hill House School in Doncaster and later Repton School.

He was deeply unhappy at Repton School, saying that he had been a “suicidal wreck” having experienced extreme bullying.

He experienced nigh time beatings, cutting up of his clothing, and, routine damage to his property.

Career

Jeremy Clarkson has had a long and fairly controversial career, involving many ups and downs.

Let’s discuss Clarkson’s successful, yet controversial career as a writer, journalist, and TV presenter.

Newspaper Journalism

The very first stage of Clarkson’s career involved being a traveling salesman for his parents’ business, selling Paddington Bears.

However, his passion lay in journalism, first training at Rotherham Advertiser, and then going on to work for various newspapers such as:

  • Lincolnshire Life
  • Rochdale Observer
  • Shropshire Star
  • Wolverhampton Express and Star

As Clarkson’s writing began to gain some traction, he received the opportunity to start working for bigger companies with more eyeballs.

Motoring Press Agency

In 1984, Clarkson co-founded the Motoring Press Agency with his friend, Jonathan Gill.

The duo would conduct vehicle road tests which would then be published in local newspapers and automotive magazines.

Jeremy ended up leaving the company when he became a presenter for Top Gear, however, it still exists today and has grown quite significantly in size and revenue.

Amstrad Computer User

Most people don’t know that Jeremy Clarkson’s early career involved him reviewing video games for ‘Amstrad Computer User’.

Clarkson started writing articles for the service in 1987.

In typical Clarkson fashion, a former editor of Amstrad took to a forum several years ago to comment on his work.

The editor mentioned that they had commissioned three articles from Clarkson, with only two being completed, and “neither were particularly good.”

Top Gear

In 1988, he had his big breakthrough when he became a TV presenter for the British motoring program ‘Top Gear’.

His signature style of being sarcastic in his reviews brought him wide mainstream fame.

In 2002, BBC presented ‘Top Gear’ in a new format, where the host trio made the show one of the most watched programs of all time.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May became one of the most popular trios on TV, causing Top Gear’s audience to skyrocket.

Some of the most popular episodes the show produced were their ‘specials’, which involved treks throughout several destinations including:

  • Africa
  • Bolivia
  • Botswana
  • Burma
  • Middle East
  • Patagonia
  • United States
  • Vietnam

The ‘Special episodes’ in particular involved each of the trio picking their own car, often with a limited budget, and having to modify their cars based on the location they were going to be exploring.

Some of the moments throughout these episodes made for comedy gold.

Clarkson later established a company known as ‘Bedder 6’ which dealt in merchandising and international distribution of ‘Top Gear’.

There were a lot of controversial things happening behind the scenes of the show.

In 2015, Clarkson’s disagreements with the producers led to him physically assaulting one of them, having to pay £100,000 in compensation.

This was ultimately what led to Clarkson being fired from Top Gear the same year, with Richard Hammond and James May deciding to leave with him.

The presenters were replaced by Chris Evans, Matt Le Blanc, and Rory Reid, but the show was never the same.

The Grand Tour

Top Gear would soon have competition, as the former presenters would quickly move on to produce their own show, ‘The Grand Tour’.

The show first aired on Amazon Prime Video in November 2016 and thus far has produced close to 50 episodes.

Unfortunately, Clarkson got himself into trouble once again, this time over comments he made about Meghan Markle.

In 2023, Amazon decided to drop Jeremy Clarkson, leading to the cancellation of both his Amazon-hosted shows, including The Grand Tour.

Other Notable Moments

In 1997, Clarkson appeared on the comedy show ‘Room 101’ which made him a celebrity. After that, he appeared on shows such as ‘Friday Night with Jonathan Ross‘ and ‘Parkinson’.

Clarkson reached a high point in his career with his very own talk show ‘Clarkson’ which consisted of 27 episodes that ran for 30 minutes and aired from 1998 to 2000.

He also kept himself busy with multiple non-motoring ventures, such as producing documentaries on history and engineering.

In 2018, Clarkson made an announcement stating that he was going to host a revamped version of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’.

Boredom means you start to read not only mail-order catalogs but also the advertising inserts that fall on the floor. Boredom gives you half a mind to get a gun and go berserk in the local shopping center, and you know where this is going. Eventually, boredom means you will take up golf.” – Jeremy Clarkson

“These people go on to tell us that mobile phones will cook our children’s ears, that long-haul flights will fill our legs with thrombosis, and that meat is murder. They want an end to all deaths – and it doesn’t stop there. They don’t even see why anyone should have to suffer from a spot of light bruising.” – Jeremy Clarkson

“It’s like making a hardcore adult film, and then editing it so that it can be shown in British hotels. You’d just end up with a sort of half-hour close up of some bloke’s sweaty face.” – Jeremy Clarkson

“I wore a groove in the kitchen floor with endless trips to the fridge, hoping against hope that I had somehow missed a plateful of cold sausages on the previous 4,000 excursions. Then, for no obvious reason, I decided to buy a footstool.” – Jeremy Clarkson

“Like every big organization these days, the BBC is obsessed with the well-being of those who set foot on its premises. He reached career highs in several categories during the 2007–08 season and was acknowledged with a third-place vote for the Most Improved Player title.

Aldridge continued playing beside Brandon Roy and Nicolas Batum in 2009 when he signed a significant five-year, $65 million deal extension with the Trail Blazers.

Between 2016-17, he unfortunately had to miss multiple games due to a minor heart arrhythmia but returned even stronger after receiving medical clearance.

Proving His Unwavering Dedication To The Game

Upon returning, LaMarcus signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension and became the first Spurs player since Artis Gilmore to make the All-Star team.

In a double-overtime victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019, Aldridge outscored players Paul George and Steven Adams with a career-high 56 points. To top off, he reached 20,000 career points on October 29, 2021, against the Indiana Pacers and signed with the Brooklyn Nets in March 2021.

A month later, he retired due to an irregular heartbeat, but with determination, he re-signed with the Nets after medical clearance on September 3, 2021.

Career

NBA superstar Kawhi Leonard is widely recognized for his clutch plays, superb defense, and winning two MVP titles in the Finals with two separate squads.

Leonard was drafted 15th overall in 2011, selected by the Indiana Pacers, and traded to the Antonia Spurs on draft night. In the same draft class, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Kyrie Irving first overall, and the Timberwolves selected Derrick Williams second overall.

Kawhi made his professional debut for the San Antonio Spurs on December 26, 2011, and earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Favorite Quotes from Kawhi Leonard

“I want the kids to know that it’s not a myth that somebody from their city plays and wins in the NBA. I just want to influence them to work hard and do whatever they want to do in life, whether it’s to be a basketball player or scientist… if they believe in themselves, they can do anything.” – Kawhi Leonard

“There’s nothing to be scared of. We’re playing basketball. The only thing that could happen is you fail. But as long as you’re going hard, there’s nothing to be scared of for me. I don’t know what there is to be scared of.” – Kawhi Leonard

“My dad leaving my life. That’s the biggest thing that happened to me. I just remember what he tells me, the memories, and try to move on forward each day, knowing that he’s still here, looking down on me.” – Kawhi Leonard

“I look at the film, but more than watching individual players, I’m trying to watch a team’s whole offensive scheme. I’m trying to know their tendencies so I can… guess. That’s what it comes down to, really, making the best guess.” – Kawhi Leonard

“Whoever I’m playing against, I go in and try to stop their best scorer and try to get myself going on the offensive end.” – Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard Success Lessons

Now that you know all about Kawhi Leonard’s net worth and how he achieved success; let’s take a look at some of the lessons we can learn from him:

1. Our Greatest Accomplishments Are Often Proceeded By Great Failure

Someone needs to be reminded of this lesson today. With 10.8 seconds remaining, Leonard missed a free throw. Jimmy Butler turned that miscue into a fast-break layup, tying the score 90-90 with 4.2 seconds remaining.

2. Great Leaders Have Great Confidence

Leonard said, “I tried to race down and get the rebound. Probably should have sprinted back to give some help on that layup that Jimmy made.

But after that, I was just like, whatever play he drew up, I’m gonna have to get to my spot and shoot it with confidence.”

3. Successful Leaders Are Trusted With Important Decisions

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said, “We run Kyle [Lowry] off their first as the first option. Then, Kawhi loops under there and gets it at the top, and it’s his call from there, what to do.”
