Regilio Benito Tuur was born August 12, 1967, in Paramaribo, Suriname Netherlands.
He grew up in a large family with 9 other siblings in South America and was interested in setting up his own clothing line when he grew up.
Regilio discovered his passion for boxing after finding out that his stepfather was a professional boxer.
The family moved to the Netherlands in 1973 and Regilio lived in Rotterdam-West at first and later, attended Jan Schildkamp boxing school, in Hoogvliet.

The following year, he qualified for the 1988 Olympic Games and on September 18, 1988, he defeated, then-world champion, Kelcie Banks.
