Introduction

Kungs is a French DJ, record producer, and musician.

He released his first album, Layers, in 2016 after success with ‘This Girl,’ a collaboration with Cookin’ on 3 Burners that became an international hit for him, and the follow-ups ‘Don’t You Know’ featuring Jamie N Commons and ‘I Feel So Bad’ featuring Ephemerals.

As of May 2024, Kungs’ net worth is estimated to be roughly $2 Million.

Early Life

Valentin Brunel was born on the 17th of December, 1996, in Toulon, France.

Brunel started his musical career with a djembe gifted by his parents to him at the age of five.

He grew up listening to rock and roll classics with his father, including The Who and The Kooks.

Discovering a passion for electronic music in his teenage years, Kungs became interested in melodic sounds and crafted timbres led by a dominant vocal.

Career

Before he became as well-known as Alok, Valentin Brunel began by playing music on a djembe when he was five years old.

When he was 17, he started writing and publishing his own compositions online, as well as remixing songs from artists like Lana Del Ray on SoundCloud.

Two of his remixes ended up receiving over 16 million views on YouTube, gaining him a ton of exposure and popularity.

Not long after, he was given the opportunity to open for some of David Guetta’s performances on his Listen Tour.

Becoming A Professional

Valentin Brunel chose his stage name after searching online for translations of the word ‘gentleman’ in numerous languages.

Eventually, he settled on ‘Kungs’, meaning ‘mister’ in Latvian, and started work on his first extended play.

In 2016, he released his first EP, This Girl, following a remix of “This Girl” by Cookin on 3 Burners, which reached no. 1 in France.

The same year, he also dropped the singles “Don’t You Know,” “I Feel So Bad,” and “You Remain,” the former of which was certified diamond.

He also released his first album, Layers, which peaked at no. 8 on the French Albums charts and went platinum twice over.

Although he hadn’t shot up to become one of the richest DJs in the world, his growing popularity was undeniable.

Kungs even won Best Single at the NRJ Music Awards and International New Act of the Year at the LOS40 Music Awards.

Focusing On Singles

Kungs released one single in 2017, “More Mess,” which featured Olly Murs, the runner-up of the UK’s The X-Factor

He put out another two singles in 2018, “Be Right There” with Stargate and “Disco Night” with Throttle.

The next year, he released only one single, “Paris,” which he followed with “Dopamine” featuring J. Hart, in 2020.

Kungs was much more active in 2021, putting out three singles, “Never Going Home,” “Regarde-moi,” and “Lipstick.”

“Never Going Home” ended up going platinum twice and reached the top 10 on charts in France, Croatia, and Poland.

In 2022, Kungs released the single “Clap Your Hands,” another single that ended up going platinum in Italy and gold in France.

Hitting His Stride

Following the release of “Clap Your Hands,” Kungs dropped his second album, Club Azur, which compiled many of his past singles.

Released by Def Jam on March 18, 2022, this album peaked at no. 11 in Franch and no. 33 in Italy.

Thanks to its popularity, it was certified gold in France and Italy and went platinum in Poland, selling 20,000 units.

After his successful album release, Kungs dropped another single, “Substitution,” featuring Purple Disco Machine, in 2023.

This single was certified platinum in Italy, Poland, and France, but it went multi-platinum in Hungary, where it topped the charts.

Shortly after, it was announced that Kungs would be performing at the Pyramids of Giza in October 2023, along with several other DJs.

Although he’d already performed at the Miami Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland, this would be his first appearance at the Palm Tree Music Festival in Egypt.

Joining him were other famous DJs, including Norwegian DJ Kygo and the legendary Tiësto, who’s topped the charts worldwide.

Favorite Quotes From Kungs’

“I loved to put some real instrument sounds in my tracks, some trumpets, or some guitars, because it’s a bit of a twist between old school sounds like in ‘This Girl’ and new sounds like with the trumpets and the bass. So I like to incorporate some old stuff and some new stuff in my tracks.” – Kungs

“For the Bob Marley remix, I just found some guitars on YouTube and was like wow, this guitar sounds amazing; maybe I should try to find an acapella of the track. So I just found it, and it was amazing to do it, and it was so simple – I don’t know why – I made the track in two hours.” – Kungs

“I’ve got an album coming out at the end of September/ beginning of October. So I’m preparing a lot of stuff at the moment. I’ve been in the studio in London and Paris, and I’ve worked with outstanding artists, including singers and guitarists, so I’m doing a lot of different styles.” – Kungs

“I work with Universal, and so they are just telling me ‘We have these artists, which ones do you prefer,’ so I pick up my favorite artist, and we go into the studio together, and we share a few good moments for one day!” – Kungs

A family that is united as one is only found in the Hardstyle scene, nowhere else.” – Headhunterz

“I was in LA in my hotel room just making some melodies, and at some point, I had a synth with a bit of Indian touch. And I was not getting out with the drop and stuff, so my manager was like KHSMR: so cool! I’m a huge fan of his sound, so I just sent the project over and didn’t expect much. However, I then received an e-mail back with “well, and I’m a fan of your sound!” – Headhunterz
